BIO:
Peekaboo was founded in 2001 in Vienna, Austria. During the next three years the band released two demos, which met friendly response from both media and concert organisers. Peekaboo became a busy live-band and songs appeared on various samplers. In 2004 the debut album Seriously Kidding (Homebase Records) was released, and the song I Pretend rotated on FM4, Austrias Alternative Radio Station. In Autumn 2004 the band toured all over the country. Since 2005 Peekaboo has been working on the second album. The band is still looking for an adequate record label. Meanwhile you can listen to 4 of the 12 new songs exclusively on myspace.
MUSIC:
Peekaboo, this means a "confident instinct for melodies and classical pop", as the Austrian newspaper der standard puts it, good songwriting, personality and recognisability. The music is placed right in the middle of (indie) pop and rock. Pop stands for tunes, which are catchy without being anxious to please, rock for power and energy.
Peekaboo music sounds quite grown-up, without being adult pop. This is true not only for its form, but also for its content: lyrics full of irony, sarcasm and understatement. Personal feelings are depicted without pathos, often proponets could have jumped right out of a book by Nick Hornby, but are put in a sociopolitical context as well. Pop about lovers and melancholic people, but also about freelancers, first-time-fathers and people who are professionally young. Pop has to be simple, not stupid.
