About Me

Aloha! This MySpace page promotes an international surfing, surf art, history & culture called Club Of The Waves...

Club Of The Waves:
COTW is a unique, huge website for surf enthusiasts and art lovers. The sites key features are...
1) The main drive of the site is to profile surf artists & photographers from all around the world. Promoting they're great work for free, to a mass audience, generating them interest and work. It is the only site on the Internet to do this on such a scale!
2) The 'culture' section is an expanse of articles on all things to do with the history of surfing, surf culture and surfing in the media. Very interesting... lot's to read!
3) The 'surf' section helps people to get into the sport, including tips on how to get started, information on types of surfboards, wetsuits, waves etc...
Hui Nalu:
Hui Nalu is the Hawaiian of 'Club Of The Waves', which was the name given to the first ever surf club, set up at the start of the 20th century by the "Beach Boys of Waikiki', headed by one of the greatest surfers of all time; Duke Kahanamoku. The Beach Boys of Waikiki are credited with the rebirth of surfing in Hawaii.

"...there was purity and there was the dream, and the adventure, and there was the counterculture aspect. It was like shove society, shove the nine to five, shove the rules... we're just going to follow our hearts, treat each other well, eat well and enjoy the ocean. It was not for money and it wasn't for fame... that's what we're gunna do... purely because that's what our hearts want to do. That was amazing."
Jim Banks (quote from the Switch-foot book)

"I took off on a wave, went down the side, popped out the other end, and went, shit, I'm still alive!"
Greg Noll (on surfing Waimea Bay for the 1st time)

"Okay, shit, I guess this is a good day to die!"
Gerry Lopez (on towing into Peahi/Jaws)

"There are no more committed people on the planet than surfers. We fall down a lot. We turn around, paddle back out, and do it over and over again. Unlike anything else in life, the stoke of surfing is so high that the failures quickly fade from memory."
Gary Sirota (surfer, ocean advocate, rich in love)
