Hailing from the streets of East London, comes one of the finest voices heard in a long time. Meet Perry Morgan, the 27-year-old singer, who's making waves on the underground scene with his song Let It Go.
Perry's love for music has been in his bones since he was a youngster and music runs in his blood. The majority of his family are somehow involved in the music business, and it was a natural progression for the smart singer.
Perry, who hails from Hackney, is on the verge of launching his first album, and it's only a taste of what's to come. A talented songwriter, he can boast that he's written almost every track on his album not a small feat!
Listening to his demo, it's not hard to draw comparisons to R&B superstars like JOHN LEDGEND & H-TOWN, but Perry's adamant that he's not like those artists. Perry takes pride in the lyrics he pens, and uses real life experiences and emotions to make his songs powerful.
"When I grew up, I listened to a lot of Anita Baker. She's one of my favourite artists, that's where I get a lot of my inspiration from. Writing lyrics that are meaningful and deep," Perry reveals.
It's hard not to see Perry's star shining brighter and brighter, knowing that he will be headed for the biggest venues, selling multi-platinum records and making his name not only as a singer with depth and amazing vocal talents, but also as a songwriter that the likes of Usher and Craig David will be queuing up to have on their albums.
If fame truly does come for Perry, he insists that he won't forget where he comes from, like a lot of artists do. When we ask him who'd he like to do a collaboration with, we expect him to start shooting of names of established American artists, who are known worldwide. But the humble singer admits, "Nah, if I get to that stage, I want to work with the artists in the UK. Why go elsewhere when we've got so much talent here? We get overlooked here, but there's a lot of talent coming out of the streets of London."
Spending the day with the singer in London, we were lucky enough to see him do his thing in the recording studio. A perfectionist in all sense of the word, Perry spent hours fining every vocal, adding lyrics and putting in the hard work to make the song absolutely flawless.
And other artists desire Perrys talents as well. He's performed with a list as long as your arm of underground artists, and his songwriting skills have been sought out by up and coming British singers. Following Perry to another recording studio, we see him lay down his vocals for an upcoming song with Drum and Bass master, MC Shabba D.
Although his first love is R&B, Perry's open to other genres of music, keeping his ear to the ground for collaborations that he can work on. Unlike many artists, Perry doesn't sit around waiting for the opportunities to come to him, he's out there in London, promoting himself and networking. Perry's been described as the UK's version of Nate Dogg or R Kelly (not being compared vocally, but being compared by working with so many different artists), with many collaborations under his belt. He's been blessed to be able to work with gifted songwriters such as Gordon Chambers as well.
"I don't want to sit around being idle, I want to make things work for myself. If it doesn't work, I can walk away knowing that I put everything I had into it," Perry smiles.Perry has worked with the following artists:
Slim Dutty,
Yush,
Fredi Kruga,
Sway,
Baby Blu,
J2K,
X-ecution Squadd,
Iceberg Slim,
MC Shabba,
