About Me

About the girl:My real name is Rhea, I go by Lemniscate for all music-related things, and Sami is an online nickname that's been around for years. Life has changed so much recently, a year ago I would not have believed I'd be where I am today. I'm enjoying the constant change though. Perpetually moving forward.I make pies for a living (baking has been my "thing" since high school, and I have the most awesome job) and am fortunate to have a job that I love. Aside from baking, music is my life. I've recently gotten into DJing, and even though I have learned so much in a pretty short period of time I still feel like there is a whole world out there for me. (More on that below.) Travelling is my other love, but cost and time restrain me on being able to do this often. I fell in love with the Greyhound years ago and still try to make trips every so often. Sometimes there is nothing more relaxing than the journey.I'm an oddball. I like being silly. I'll swear to being a little kid as long as I can. I take life seriously, but I take it with a lot of fun and happiness. I'm out to enjoy life, and with everything I have going for me and the amazing people in my life, it is impossible not to.Don't stop the musicFebruary 26, 2007: My first guest mix for Progressive at Heart (hosted by Matt (Aberration Theory) ) airs.March 26, 2007: My second guest mix for Progressive at Heart (hosted by Matt (Aberration Theory) ) airs. A few days later I get news from Matt that Kris (from liquid.fm ) wants me to have my own show there.April 17, 2007: Binary Reflections debut on liquid.fm . Hosted by myself and my good friend Mike (Cardinality).Summer was filled with a lot of radio shows, random cds for the beach, and finding so much good music. At this point I had barely touched turntables more than a couple times, but I was so in touch with the music. I didn't see it back then, but as I listen to my older shows I can see a lot of progression over the months. I was still only mixing on the computer, but I feel even that amount of practice was a lot of help for what was to come.October 14, 2007: Go back to the 5th, Pharaoh's started a new night called Elevate. Local Winnipeg DJs. Mike and I handed in demo cds. Now go back to the 14th where I recieve an e-mail saying I'll be getting a spot to DJ soon. I spent the next day running around the city finding out where I could immediately purchase everything I needed, and the day after that going back to the stores to make the purchases.November 2, 2007: I get a message at 9:30am asking if I'd like to DJ at Pharaoh's that night for the opening. Two weeks of work really paid off. That night was really something else.I've been mostly playing around at home since then. Mike and I DJed for two and a half hours at my birthday party. I haven't been hardcore practicing as much since then, but I have been working on prospects of live mashups.Currently: I am constantly making radio shows (Binary Reflections every first and third Monday of the month, guest mixes for Progressive at Heart every second and fourth Tuesday of the month). I am working on an 8 hour mix for the official relaunch of liquid.fm. I'm trying to find out more about the music scene in Winnipeg because I'd really like to see what everybody else has to offer. I've heard a lot about so many people, but have yet to see them for myself.
