About Me

This rock and roll group from Corpus Christi, Texas was formed in 1966 by five musicians to write and perform original music influenced by the British storm of rock and the prominent surfing craze taking place around the country and in South Texas.
After winning a battle of the bands, they recorded their first song Bad Girl in McAllen, TX in a two-track studio, since Corpus had no recording facility at the time. That first record would eventually be acquired by Mercury records and re-released nationwide topping the charts in several markets.
Subsequent record releases would land the Thaks on several major concert venues, playing as the opening act for the likes of Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Yardbirds, Jefferson Airplane, Steppenwolf, Hermans Hermits, and many others.
After parting ways in the late 60s, the band has seen a resurgence of interest in their music. Now called garage music, there are several Thaks fan clubs world-wide including some in Japan, Spain, Italy, and Australia, to name a few. A new wave of young music lovers has sprouted up to keep the music alive.
After a reunion concert in Oct. 2004, at a former band mates house in Corpus, word started spreading that the Thaks were back. This led to a performance in New Orleans on April 27, 2005 at the Ponderosa Stomp, a two day rock and garage festival during the world famous Jazz Fest. Several clubs in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio Texas have expressed interest in having the Thaks perform and there are negotiations under way to record some previously un-released material.
