Restless hit the ground running in 1982 with their debut LP 'Why Don't You Just Rock'. The band consisted of guitar virtuoso 'Mark Harman' brother Paul on double bass and Ben Cooper on drums.
Possibly the best debut album of all time, it contained classics such as 'ice cold' , 'it's a scam' and ' yellow cab to midnight'.
The dynamic live show sent fans crazy world wide and Restless became 'gods ' of the rockabilly scene worldwide.
1983 saw the release of the showstopper ‘Edge On You’ on single.
Restless had now released the best debut album and best single of any rockabilly band, EVER!
Not bad for three teenagers from Suffolk!
1984s follow up 'Do You Feel Restless' was a great album, better than anyone else's but not as good as the debut.
Then Paul left the band!
Far from being the end of the band, a new line-up consisting of Mark, Ben, Mick Malone and Jeff Bayly were signed to ABC records, a much bigger label!
Many fans feel that this period was even more magnificent than the first. Restless released a 12" EP of the classic 'Vanish Without A Trace' and unleashed a whole new ultra sophisticated sound, which is much copied
Restless were TOO GOOD in a way and many people believed they would be big stars, including the music biz.
So, in 1986, 30 grand (a lot of dosh in those days) was thrown at an album called ‘After Midnight’. It was swamped in brass and keys and at the time disappointed many fans.
In retrospect, it’s the other classic album!
Fame evaded Restless and given their talent this seems extremely cruel.
However, they bounced back with the magnificent ‘Beat My Drum’ in 1988 , bringing their ‘boogie-billy’ to crowds worldwide once again.
Restless called it a day in 1998.
Restless have undergone line-up and sound changes over the years, but in recent years the original line-up have reformed and done occasional gigs worldwide.
To the greatest band of all time-we salute you !!!RESTLESS HAVE SPLIT UP
