everything. seriously. i want to learn everything, know everything, love everything. but especially honesty. truth is extremely important to me.
i also love cheese. oh, and glitter. (i'm *really* into shiny things)in the stolen words of ani difranco: "i want somebody who sees the pointlessness and still keeps their purpose in mind. i want somebody who has a tortured soul some of the time. i want somebody who will either put out for me or put me out of misery. or maybe just put it all to words and make me go, you know i never heard it put that way. make me say, what did you just say?"
a quote from Dave Matthews-- "there is this element of competition, especially in pop culture: 'which is better-- country or hip hop or rock n roll?' what?! good music is good music and everything else can go to hell."
I completely agree. my musical taste is sort of this giant clusterfuck of stuff. mostly i like lyrics. thats what really gets me on music.
but if you want some specifics, here's my standard favs:
AFI. Ani Difranco. Barenaked Ladies. Bayside. Brand New. Bright Eyes. Crossfade. the Cure. Dashboard Confessional. Dave Matthews. Death Cab. Elliot Smith. Fall Out Boy. From Autumn to Ashes. Frou Frou. Guster. Hot Hot Heat. Jimmy Eat World. Johnny Cash. the Killers. Linkin Park. Modest Mouse. Oh My God. the Postal Service. Reel Big Fish. Rufus Wainwright. Senses Fail. Stuart Davis. Thrice. Van Morrison. Weezer. Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
other likes and/or loves:
A Perfect Circle. Bjork. Blur. Cake. Cold. Damien Rice. Eve 6. the Faint. Fiona Apple. Gavin DeGraw. Get Up Kids. Incubus. John Mayer. Justin Timberlake. Little Mojo. Maroon 5. Matchbox 20. Outkast. Queens of the Stone Age. Radiohead. Smashing Pumpkins. Spitalfield. Staind. Sunset Black. Taking Back Sunday. Three Dog Night. Thursday. Tool. the Used.
Amelie, Fight Club, Joe vs. the Volcano, Ocean's Eleven, Out Cold, Lilo & Stitch, Moonstruck, Doris Day/Cary Grant type movies, Boondock Saints, many others i am forgetting about. recent additions: Garden State and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (although it is really creepy to watch a movie starring yourself. that girl is entirely too much like me.)
as a general idea, i don't support tv. i believe in that whole turning-your-brain-to-jello theory. but there are certain shows that i think make you smarter and those are the ones i like: the History & Discovery channels, South Park, the Daily Show, and West Wing for example. This summer Mark had me watch Arrested Development and wow, is that show brilliant. I drove 15 hours to Texas and all I wanted to do was sit inside and watch Arrested Development episodes. It's that good.
Rumi, Hafiz, everything by Neil Gaiman (especially Good Omens and American Gods), Chuck Klosterman (brilliant!), Gabriel Garcia Marquez, G.K. Chesterton, Howard Zinn, Siddartha, Hitchhiker's Guide "Trilogy", Chronicles of Narnia, Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones' Diary, many many more, i read constantly. I actually have a list of every book I have finished since January 2000 to present. How nerdy is that?
ani difranco. that girl's got a good head on her shoulders. (that means she's smart)
