LET US TELL YOU FIRST A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT RESPECT...It all started in the summer of 1996. Three boys from Paris, Jerome, Fred & David, met in a street. Jerome & David were journalists (Radio FG & Radio Nova) and Fred was a party promoter. They were all complaining that because of the French police it was not possible to do raves like in the old days. And because of club owners with a mentality from the 80s, all clubs had some music policy really shitty (remember handbag and hard house?). Then came the Queen, a huge and gay commercial club on Champs Elyses. The Queen was (and still is) open 7 days a week, so of course there were quieter days than others, and the Queen offered F+J+D the possibility of doing something on Wednesday nights. No big risk: the party was free at the door, and as long as the dj budget was tight, the trio was able to do whatever they liked. Which means bringing to Paris the best djs from Paris. Yes, the situation was absurd: every music paper in England was speaking about this great French Touch sound (Daft Punk, Dimitri, Motorbass) but none of them were playing in their hometown. Then came Respect by the way, the name was found by Ivan Smagghe, of Black Strobe fame, Respect like Respect to the French scene

THE FIRST PARTY WAS HELD THE 26TH OF OCTOBER 1996.Jose Padilla (our first guest dj legend) was doing the warm up, the Daft Punk were djing in main light, and Jef K from Silver Records was spinning for the late hours. The success was instantaneous and from this day, every Wednesday at Queen was a crazy mix of gay and straight, young kids and trainspotters, break dancers (for the first time in Paris in a house club we felt like we were at Body & Soul) and cute babes, dancing to the best French djs and some of our legendary friends from outside, from Franois K to Harvey, David Mancuso to Jacques Lu Cont. From 96 to 99, it was three crazy years. Too crazy maybe. At the end of spring 99, the Respect team was not able to do it anymore. Too big. Too hyped. Soon it would have been the opposite of what the team wanted. So Respect at Queen stops. End of an era. And welcome the World.

THANX TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR FIRST CDS, AND NOTABLY THE NIGHT AT THE PLAYBOY MANSIONwith Dimitri from Paris, Respect was called by every promoter in the world and their mothers too. Then started the biggest road club trip ever, from Tokyo to Caracas, Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, Oslo to Miami, Cannes to Lisbon, with some famous residencies at Vega Copenhagen, Fuse Brussels and of course Twilo NYC! Not forgetting the Playboy Mansion gig of course, with Fred walking like a King in the mansion before a security told him that the only guy allowed to walk in a dressing gown was Hugh Hefner and Hugh only. So, another three crazy years, jet lag, drugs and all you name it. 2002, the Respect team was exhausted again. We were missing Paris maybe? Yes, but not Paris in the year, Paris in the Summer! So much cooler.

HERE CAME THE 3RD PART OF THE STORY.June 2002, the Respect team found a new place in Paris, on a boat, just in the center of the town, on the Seine, the Concorde Atlantique boat! Then for four years, from 6pm to 6am, all summer, on Wednesday nights (always on Wednesday, its our lucky day!), Respect does its ete d Amour sessions (Summer of Love, you English-talking morons). Music policy? Wide open, and more from ever. Rock, Techno, Disco, Soul, Funk, Pop, Italo Disco, New Wave, P Funk and GoGo, why not? Whatever, as long as it is fresh.

STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT RESPECT PARTY! Respect is now ten years old and we are thinking of planning a special Birthday party here in Paris. Oh oui. Voulez vous coucher avec moi and all, of course my dear. French do it better, right? Enjoy! And Much Reeeeeeeespect!
