These performances eventually offered him the opportunity to tour nationally and dance in music videos.   In 1992, Moncell met Buddha Stretch of Mop-Top crew. As a result, Stretch became a key figure in Moncell’s professional development, and in 1998 Stretch offered Moncell an open invitation to become a member of Mop-Top.  After consenting, Moncell began to intimately study a variety of Black “street” dance forms.  He has trained with The Lockers, The Electric Boogaloos, and Buddha Stretch.  In addition, Moncell has consumed volumes of scholarly and popular literature in relation to African-American vernacular dance forms, in particular, and general dance studies.   Moncell has retained a 5-year adjunct professor position at Drexel University, and is working toward a MFA in dance. Until recently, he was a senior lecturer of Hip Hop dance and culture at University of the Arts in Philadelphia.  Moncell has lectured and taught master classes and workshops at Princeton, Yale, University of Buffalo, Wesleyan University, William Patterson and a several other universities and high schools in the United States., Asia, Europe and South America.   Currently, Moncell is filming a documentary about the deep-rooted structure and African retention present in dance practices throughout the African Diaspora. This film investigates and re-presents Hip Hop’s lineage.  It also highlights an assortment of influential black cultural phenomena that helped construct and characterize the movement practices demonstrated in African-American expressive culture.    Moncell is president and founder of Dance Educators of Funk & Hip Hop (DEFHH).  DEFHH is an organization that facilitates workshops for dance educators, dancers, and dance historians concerning an array of topics related to Afro-Diasporic/African-American vernacular dance forms. DEFHH also operates as a consultant group that provides assistance to educational institutions in the development of dance oriented curriculum.  Recently, Moncell co-founded FUNKADELPHIA, a dance collective that features an intensely diverse ensemble of professional creative and movement artists. FUNKADELPHIA utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to presenting Hip Hop cultural aesthetics by creating an evocative and entertaining way of illustrating Hip Hop’s past, present and future.  FUNKADELPHIA shows incorporate dance styles ranging from African to Swing to Breaking and Hip Hop, vocals, beatboxing, and stylized martial arts demonstrations.Music is my life. student of the Tao. my personality is a living, breathing saga, I love to paint, new to photography and love to travel the world.border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting" LOCKING DVD & TUTORIAL, ON SALE NOW.
