My family tree can be traced directly to Jack Wilson and Rachel Hardin of England. Jack was of an aristocratic family, in line for the throne. Rachel was of a poor or peasant family.The Hardins lived in a hut on the Wilson estate where Jack and Rachel as children played and grew up together. Later their friendship grew into a romance which was bitterly opposed by the two families, as the Wilsons being aristocrats classed themselves above the Hardins and the Hardins knowing this, felt like this was an impossible relationship and a fantasy dream of Rachel.One day the Hardins went away to attend a meeting and left Rachel locked up inside the hut in the care of her grandmother.
Jack came to the Hardin hut and the grandmother, being in sympathy with Jack and Rachel allowed them to talk thru a window where they made arrangements to elope. Jack returned a short time later with a magnificent white horse for their get-a-way. The Hardin hut had an old fashioned stick and clay chimney. So Jack told Rachel to climb up the chimney where he was waiting to catch her when she fell. As he took her in his arms, he said she never looked more beautiful than she did then, all covered in soot. But her grandmother thoughtfully had prepared a bundle of clothes for her to carry on her arm up the chimney.They rode off into the sunset and were soon married. The Wilson family so disapproved the marriage that they disinherited Jack, who lost everything, including title to the throne. They then came to America.Rachel Wilson (a daughter or grandaughter of Jack Wilson and Rachel Hardin) married Philemon Payne of Kentucky. Their daughter Elizabeth Payne married James Ramey McKinney of Scotland. Their son W. Franklin McKinney married Mary P. Boone, daughter of Daniel Boone (yes, THAT Daniel Boone) on Sept. 9, 1821. I am a decendant of Daniel Boone. The McKinneys inhabited large parts of VA, KY, TN and Texas, where many of my relatives have lived since 1818.
