Well, uh, that's just your opinion man...

About Me

Cuckundoo wants to release passionate music from the more experimental sides of guitar/electronic music.
The ideal situation would be to get artists from all walks of life and musical styles to jam together, recorded both in audio and on film. The essence of music is in live performance, so Cuckundoo wants to be able to catch this vibe.
Inspired by not only the music itself, but also the Canadian collectives such as Constellation, Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire and the recent Leeds scene (Dance to the Radio, Art Goes Pop, Engine Room, Gizeh...), by comedy (Chris Morris, the Boosh, Look Around You), by film (directors Linklater, Coen brothers, Leone, Kaufman, Jeunet...), not to mention all of the other day-to-day occurences that pass by.
Vessels
Experimental/post-rock band (Martin Teff, Tim Mitchell, Tom Evans, Lee J.Malcolm) who formed in 2005, and have since played at the Leeds festival and with Mono, Jeniferever, The Appleseed Cast, iLiKETRAiNS, Brett Anderson and Youthmovies amongst others. Their sound has been compared to many bands/movements, but a distinctive sound is emerging from their Green Room headquarters in Leeds.
They self-released an EP in 2006, which you can get from Here!

escalade
I met Greg Sullivan in the Lodge in the City hostel on Taranaki Street in Wellington, NZ, in 2003. In between his recordings, we got to know each other quite well, and he passed me a cd, and 18 months later it dawned on me that we could work together, despite there being almost 10,000 miles between us. Anyway here is what Greg says about escalade:
"escalade refers to overcoming the things which lie in ones figurative way. This self-titled, debut album was completed by artist Greg Sullivan, largely during an open-ended self-exile abroad, in both New Zealand and Japan. Basic songwriting and arrangement were realized while on the continual move, traveling alone. Becoming a sort of audio travel diary, the collection of songs evolved over the course of more than three years, against the ever-changing backdrop of countless towns. Mental images of the expansive natural wonders, which surrounded the production process, seem soaked and fully absorbed into the essence of the music.
The recording of tracks was realized mostly in Wellington, NZ and later during a two-year stay in Fukuoka, Japan. With the help of various local Japanese players, what began as a linear band-sound, has moved towards a more ensemble-like feel. Song-structures avoid repetition in form, and bring the listener through more of a committed passage to some unforshadowed destination. Guitars are woven into intricate patterns; connecting the dots between various points of reference within each contrasting song. The resulting mix of spindly, drony, and angular chord progressions leave a sense of the jazzy harmonies, mixed with shades of retro/surf guitar, having been twisted to scintillate in a daydream haze.
Working from a broad range of influences, escalade's synthesis of a would-be group sound, and a self-produced pocket-symphony aesthetic, holds in regard equally, the old and the new. While branching directly from 80s /90s indie, post-punk roots, there is also an unmistakable element of 70's progressive music a la 'Future Days'-era Can and Eno/ECM label output of the same time. The resulting sound resembles some kind of exquisite tragedy-the slow-motion staccato of a falling crystal chandelier."
