Jean-Christoph "Schowi" Ritter, born in '74, loves music. MC & co-founder of pioneer german hiphop group "Massive Töne", founded in '91, released 4 albums, lots of singles & videos, won several awards - sold hundreds of thousands of records in Germany, Switzerland & Austria..
He recorded collabo tracks with I AM (Marseille), Shabazz The Disciple (Gravediggaz), Arsonists (NYC), Blahzay Blahzay (East New York), Fatman Scoop (NYC), Tairo (Paris), Dynamic Duo (Seoul, Korea), Ceza (Istanbul, Turkey) and others..
Despite making music with his band "Massive Töne" & running his own music and marketing agency "0711Entertainment" Schowi has always been a passionate DJ, collecting thousands of records since 86', at the age of 12 - loving all kinds of funky bass heavy booty shaking club music - hiphop, disco, funk, baile funk, miami & baltimore club, ghettotech & electronic club music, nu & old rave!
His actual project is called BASS ILL EURO. Together with DJ Passion he produces club bangers that exactly represent his definition of club sound in the year 2008. Their N.E.R.D juke remix of “Everyone Nose” got big support and airplay on Sinden’s Show on Kiss London and on Annie Macs Show on BBC 1.
Schowi is known for his unique ability to "read the crowd" and to build an innovative set that never looses tension. His sets are eclectic, energetic and well-selected, satisfying both party people and music connaisseurs. These skills made him a much sought-after DJ, holding residencies in some of germany's most reknown clubs as well as being booked to play some of the most prestigious corporate, society and after-show parties.

Jean-Christoph "Schowi" Ritter ist nicht nur Rapper bei Massive Töne, Club-, Label- und Agenturchef, sondern vor allem eins: DJ! Ein begnadeter "Selector" und gnadenlos guter Club DJ. Schowi rockt.
Mit seiner Band Massive Töne hat er HipHop-Geschichte geschrieben, vier Alben, darunter den Meilenstein Kopfnicker und neben Chartbreaker, Cruisen oder Traumreise etliche erfolgreiche Singles veröffentlicht. Die Eins Live Krone, Comet-, Echo-Nominierungen und über eine halbe Million verkaufte Tonträger machen ihn und seine Massiven zu Grossen im deutschen Musikbiz.
Einige tausend Platten hat Schowi aber zu Hause stehen und die besten davon packt er regelmässig in seine Plattentasche - um Hintern zu bewegen! Dann cruist er mit 33 1/3 Umdrehungen pro Minute auf den Decks über jegliche Genregrenzen hinweg, von skandinavischen Disco Edits zu dreckigem Crunk zu bouncendem Booty Bass über treibende elektronische Musik von Old bis NuRave über 80er Flashbacks zurück zum guten HipHop von De La Soul oder zur schreienden Missy. Dabei lässt er auf HipHop, Minimal oder Electro beschränkte "Keep-it-real-DJs" elegant links liegen und überrundet sie mit Baltimore Club, Booty Bass und Baile Funk Vollgas: Von Martin Landsky zu Bonde De Role zu Ludacris zu Egyptian Lover zu Justice zu Rod Lee zu Abe Duque zu Guns & Roses und zurück.
Gute Musik spielen und Stile mischen, damit Menschen euphorisch tanzen lautet Schowis Credo. "Ich spiele nicht Mixed-Music, weil ich keinen Stil beherrsche, im Gegenteil, ich glaube das was ich aussuche, suche ich richtig aus!" Und dabei bewegt er sich eben nicht nur in seinen eigentlichen HipHop-Gefilden, sondern sprengt Grenzen - sofern es sie überhaupt gibt. Die einen nennen es Fresstyle, die anderen Fusion oder Eclectic. Schowi nennt es "Action Selection" oder schlicht basslastige Club Music.
Sicher haben 2ManyDjs, Danger Mouse, Diplo oder M.I.A. diesem "Genre" mit ihren Eclectic- bzw. Mash-Up-Alben zum Erfolg im Mainstream verholfen, aber wenn wir ehrlich sind ist das für HipHopper nicht unbedingt etwas neues: Run DMC & Aerosmith oder Public Enemy rappten schon in den 80ern über Gitarren.
Und trotzdem hat der Mash-Up-Hype etwas gutes bewirkt: DJs müssen sich wieder anstrengen. Genau da setzt Schowi an, indem er groovt, unvorhersehbar mixt und mit Stil und Seele rockt! In seinen Sets können sich die neuesten US-HipHop-Tunes von Jay-Z, T.I. oder der Three 6 Mafia und "alternativer" Rap von The Roots oder den Jurassic 5 finden, man hört Snap im Baile-Funk-Gewand, Sean Paul auf Guns n Roses-Riffs toasten, Alter Ego oder Daft Punk im Baltimore-Club-Style, Boys Noize und Surkin oder aber the Clash, Feist, New Order und the Arctic Monkeys, um Intellektuelle zu befriedigen. Alles klingt frisch, funky & bass heavy - mit einem einzigen Ziel: um Hintern zu bewegen.
Das macht er so gut, und sein Ruf als begnadeter Party Rocker eilt ihm soweit voraus, dass er nicht nur mehrere Residencies in wichtigen Clubs der Republik hält und in Szeneclubs von Berlin bis München gebucht wird, sondern gerne zu DTM- oder Formel 1-Parties gerufen oder regelmäßig in den schicksten Club von Paris - das NEO - gebeten wird, um dort Europas "Jeunesse Doree" gekonnt in den Hintern zu treten.
Aktuell produziert Schowi gemeinsam mit DJ Passion unter dem Namen BASS ILL EURO. Die beiden sind verantwortlich für Baltimore-Baile-Electro-Bootlegs und sorgen seit 2006 für Aufsehen in der Musik-Blogosphäre. Ihre BASS ILL EURO Remixe und Edits bekommen massiven Support und Plays von DJ Schwergewichten wie DJ Yoda auf Sinden's KISS FM Show (London) oder Annie Mac's BBC 1 Show (London).
Schowi ist übrigens alles andere als ein unbeschriebenes Blatt in Sachen Club Culture und Deejaying. Er gründete 1996 zusammen mit Johannes "Strachi" Strachwitz in Stuttgart den 0711Club, Deutschlands legendären HipHopClub, in dem schon in den Jahren 96-03 alle US-Legenden gespielt haben, noch bevor HipHop zum Grossraum-Phänomen wurde: Von Tony Touch & Evil Dee bis Peanut Butter Wolf & Premier.
Sein zweites, ebenfalls mit Strachi gegründetes und Clubkonzept namens 12INCH startete 2001 und war ebenfalls seiner Zeit voraus. Es kann wohl nur mit der Heimat der 2manyDJs, dem 'Culture Club' in Gent oder Parties wie 'the rub' in Brooklyn oder 'BootieSF' in San Francisco verglichen werden. Schowi und sein 12INCH hatten 80er Flashbacks, mischten Genres und mashten Songs lange vor MTVmash- und RTL 80er-Hypes.
Schowi ist einer der besten Club DJs der Republik.
