The roots of Color By Numbers began five years ago in the suburbs of Fort Wayne, Indiana, when rudimentally taught drummer, Joey Branam, and classical pianist, Paul Kendall decided it was time to start a band the likes of which had never been seen. As they continued playing together the music almost began creating itself. Soon they would discover a diamond in the rough known as Aaron Ehinger, lead vocalist and not too long after an amazing technical guitarist, Josh Cross. The four members instantly clicked and began writing music together in the same manner that water spills from a river into the ocean.
"Before CBN, I had played with a lot of different bands with a lot of different musicians. In none of them did I share any creative goals or ideas. It was constantly like beating a dead horse. Then Paul and I decided to start this band, and it was just too good of a thing to give up." -Joey Branam
The story of how the band came to be "Color By Numbers," is a story that is rarely told by the band members. Why you might ask?
"It's a pretty lame story."-Aaron Ehinger
"We were all just sitting around in the practice room one day and decided that this band needed a name. We then continued to just toss out name ideas until someone was like, that name doesn't totally suck. And so we became Color By Numbers, but we're known to most people as CBN. (not the Christian Broadcasting Network)." -Paul Kendall
Together, they recorded a couple demos and eventually a full length self titled LP that sold in mass quantities not only in their area, but they also had a great deal of success mailing out copies all over the nation. This led to a tour across the country, playing everywhere that they could and meeting some of the most talented undiscovered acts this nation has to offer.
After playing in 32 states and being totally exhausted it was time yet again to record another album. This eight track CD entitled "possibilities" is a reflection of where CBN's music has been and where the quartet is going in the future.
CBN is currently in the midst of recording their next album. It is unsure at the moment whether or not it is going to be a full length or an EP, but what's for sure is that it is going to be loaded with the passion and intensity that their music has always emanated.
Their DIY mentality has brought them leaps and bounds. Now they are just looking for that next hurdle to jump over and continue spreading their music to all who embrace it.
FWM REVIEW SNIPPET: "To see and observe these guys is something I definitely recommend. They have the essentials to being in a band; they have a look, they have a distinct sound, they have a loyal fan base, they have fun, but more importantly they give their performance everything they have. They have talent and push it through and explode on stage. It blew me away, and for those of you who DO NOT know me, its hard to make me speechless.
What to expect at a CBN show:
Lots of jumping
Crowd interaction
Aaron wearing tight pants
Back Flips off the stage
And lots of really cool hair"
