Three different bands, four different people all united as one, thus came Xaphan. This is the story of how they came to be: Nick Orth was in Nocturnal Dead, even though he didn't like the music(to punk for him), he still played with the band.
Nocturnal Dead needed a drummer and bassist so Nick posted a bulletin on myspace requesting one. Paul Jacobs, former bassist to DefAceD, now current Xaphan drummer, A.K.A. The Paulverizer responded to the bulletin and he became Nocturnal Dead's drummer. Nick and Paul both discussed the difficulties they were having with unreliable band members and decided to quit Nocturnal Dead instead of kicking the other two original members out. In desperate need of a guitarist, Paul invited his companion and former DefAced vocalist/guitarist Erin Wilson, who became Xaphan's lead guitarist. Erin and Paul had always discussed doing a thrash metal band and were actually attempting to start one called The Watchers. Once again unreliable band members brought that idea to a halt.
Xaphan now had a rhythm, and lead guitarist, and a drummer. They now needed a bassist and vocalist in order to start their retro-sounding thrash metal band.
The band decided to go back to the roots of DefAceD and call up their bass player Ikari(who originally replaced Paul on bass in DefAceD). He was also invited to play in Nocturnal Dead before Paul and Nick had quit and currently plays in a band called "Tuxedo Wrath". Ikari was more than happy to play bass for the newly formed nameless band. The four of them were feeling pretty stoked about the band but still need a voice to bring it all together. Since good singers are hard to find (especially ones who aren't emo) Ikari volunteered to give the vocals a try. After hearing him sing, they knew he had the growl for the band.
The band now had all of its members and wasted no time getting to work. Coming up with their first original song "Palace of Worms" before they even had a name. After long discussions and weeks were taken to come up with a name, "Xaphan" was finally settled on.
Soon after Xaphans first show Ikari decided that there was to much dedication required to be in Xaphan and thought it would be best to part ways. With upcoming shows Xaphan needed to find replacements and fast, but no one really knew of any other bassists or vocalists around. After some searching Paul managed to find Wyatt Bowser a lover of thrash metal and Megadeth. He was the perfect fit for the band. After asking him to join he said he needed some time to think about it. After several days he told Paul he would do it. With the problem of the bassist being settled there was one problem left... a vocalist, one who wasn't emo or did not suck ass. After several discussions between Paul and Erin, Ikari was brought back up and said he would do vocals. Since vocals do not require Ikari to be at band practice all the time, they decided it would not be a hassle and he was bought back into the band for vocals.
Xaphan now has their full line-up and does not plan on changing it any time soon.
Xaphan is currently working very hard to come up with some retro-sounding thrash metal with some modernized techniques and hopes to release their first album this summer, along with a cover album of their main influences.
