About Me

"Once again, 'Holy Moley' is potently, discernibly different and a good few metres better than most of the competition...The marvellous thing with The Gorgeous Colours is that you never really know where their intoxicating music is going to take you next, yet you instinctively feel you can trust them to guide you. It's clearly going to be a fascinating journey, but for now 'Holy Moley' is the sound of the plot thickening very nicely indeed." - Whisperinandhollerin.com
"A snappy, uncomplicated pop gem that grabs the attention instantly, and doesn't let go." - Hot Press
The Gorgeous Colours’ new download-only single “Holy Moley” follows hot on the heels of “Hunting Something” which, as well as reaching number one in Phantom FM’s chart, was their second single to enter the Irish singles chart. Already a live favourite, it showcases a quirkier side to the band, adding monk-like chanting and stop-start rhythms to the band’s trademark booming vocals and catchy melodies.
The band announced their arrival last November with their debut single “Burning” which was voted Single of the Week by the Cross The Pond website, and described by Hot Press as "genius summed up in four and a half minutes". The same magazine subsequently tipped them as one of their Irish acts to watch in 2007.
Since then, they have supported acts such as Pop Levi, My Luminaries and Switches as well as playing their own headline shows in venues such as Whelans and The Village. They were selected to play on the IMRO showcase tour in March, and toured Ireland with The Immediate in April.
Aside from spending the summer working on their forthcoming debut album, recent activities have included a second appearance at the Castlepalooza festival and appearances on Spin and Phantom FM.
Here are some nice things that people have said about the band:
In Dublin Magazine
"As beautiful and bright as their name implies, this Dublin fourpiece are creating infectious, studied and beautifully crafted indie rock. Tracks like the urgent, guitar-driven Hunting Something, the melancholy I Miss You and the simply brilliant Burning, coupled with their energetic live performances, mark them out as definitely being on the road to greater things."
Hot Press Review of “Hunting Something”
"Explain to me again why The Gorgeous Colours haven't yet been picked up by anyone in the usually-excitable A&R community?" Hunting Something' displays the band at their most inspired, dragging the genre of Americana by its straggly hair right up to the present day. There's trumpets ferchrissake!"
UCD College Tribune (Artist of the Fortnight)
"The sheer pleasure the band take in playing, combined with the energy and jubilant nature of the music, translates into one of the most enjoyable live bands in the country at the moment."
whisperinandhollerin.com
“Hunting something”, frankly, is a corker…intense and urgent and far too classy to be derided as bog-standard indie guitar fare…it’s utterly intoxicating. The Gorgeous Colours have it in them to present us with a magnificent canvas before they’re finished. Record companies take heed and act accordingly.
O2 Making Waves podcast
"The meteoric rise of The Gorgeous Colours is such that one can't help but get a sense that if their colourful cascading comet hurtles much further along its current trajectory they will soon blast into a different musical stratosphere. They seem to have everything in their arsenal needed to reach the top of their game, and seem to be going there fast."

Sounds Like: "Aided by the magnetic charm of each member, it would take a person with a corpse-like stiffness not to be drawn into their triumphant performance...And The Colours clearly go well together: already theyre the object of international A&R affection, thanks to their quirky American desert-sounding tunes... 'Hunting Something' in particular contains a spectrum of sounds all condensed into five minutes - its just as clear that theyre not a band to follow trends."- HOTPRESS MAGAZINE
