I'm a newbie to guitar, songwriting and MySpace....but not to music. Born in Bakersfield, Calif., my mother was friends with Buck and Bonnie Owens and Merle Haggard, so you know what kind of music played in our house! I grew up with a passion for horses and cant imagine my life without them. Fresh out of High School (a wild adventurous girl I was!) I was waitin tables in an all night cafe when the Allman Brothers Band came in for breakfast on the way to Santa Barbara for a concert. As a tip......they gave me a backstage pass to come see the show!! Off I went......and had the time of my life!!! The next day, I got a phone call from thier sound tech, asking if I would like to fly down to L.A. to see the show there......he bought me a plane ticket and that evening I was met at the airport by one of those limo drivers holding up a sign with my name on it (haha!) and cruising thru L.A. in a limo, well......there were tourist on the street.....in other cars....all camera ready to catch a pic of the 'STAR' in the limo!! I felt like a star that day as I entered the backstage door at the concert and my name on the top of the list. :) This was on Gregg Allmans 'Laid Back' tour and he had quite the production!! A band called 'Cowboy' toured with him with songwriter/musician Scott Boyer, lead guitarist , Tommy Talton, Chuck Leavell ..board, a horn and string ensemble.....LOTS goin on, on that stage!! To make a long story short.....I ended up quitting my job, selling my car (I didnt have much at age 17) and was on the roadie bus traveling across the U.S. for the remainder of the tour. Now why I waited till I was in my 40's to finally pick up a guitar and try to play when I had some of the most talented musicians around back then.....is beyond me!! But hell! It WAS the 70's then, and you know what they say......'If you remember the 70's, you weren't there!!' But nonetheless, I must've been busy doin' 'girl thangs' to be interested in pickin up guitars. I did sing a little then, the Roadies put together a band and called themselves the 'Almost Brothers' With long time head Roadie, Red Dog playing one of Dickie Betts 'throw away guitars', Buddy Thornton on bass (sound tech) Virginia (cant remember her last name) played an electric piano that Chuck Leavell had given her, Trash played guitar as well......and I sometimes would sing with them. On occassion when Gregg was playing a gig without an opening band, he's let us go out there an make fools of ourselves while the audience trickled in. An experience I'll NEVER forget!! But the seasons change, and a couple of years in Macon, GA.....I was back in California and back to my 'HORSE THANG' Tho I dont consider myself a singer......I did sing in a few local country bands whenever I could. It wasn't till I bought a computer, discovered a chat server called PALTALK and the LIVE music rooms there, did I decide I wanted to learn to play guitar. Not knowing the first step in chosing a guitar to buy, I just went down the the local guitar store, pulled a Takamine off the rack (I didnt know ONE chord yet) strummed it, and said........'I'LL TAKE THIS ONE' The kind and talented musicians in Paltalk helped me via chatrooms and I sat with that guitar for sometimes 12 hours a day and plucked away at it teaching myself some chords. That was only 4 yrs ago, I still dont know much, but I can at least accompany myself on some songs. Just within the last 6 mos. I thought I might try and write. The two songs that play here are my first. As I get more recorded by someone that can sing, and actually play guitar, I will add to the collection. Stay tuned for MORE!!
