Before "Gangsta" rap was accepted by radio, when hip-hop was kiddy music to "Mainstream" artist. There were a couple of west coast underground producers doin it big in the streets of South Central,Calif. One of these cats was world renown Dj Quik.Another was Dj Battle Cat and the third Watts Up Productions (Big Jess). This is where west coast ghetto music began. In South Central, there was'nt too much gangsta music circulating anywhere but Compton and Watts.Watts Up Productions kicked out straight west coast "hardcore" music. The lyrics were delivered by many different "gangbangaz". "It started off wit ma lil sis bustin da Underground Crip Rap",says Big Jess laughing because that same sister is a minister now. Then there was the Rollin Forty Rap and the East Coast Rap that circulated throughout the California Penal System in the 80's.Yes,Watts Up Productions provided the beats for these projects too.Later in the 80's,ghetto "Gangsta"rap was finally accepted by the mainstream.Independent underground record labels were forming all over the inner-city.Two labels Hood Rat Records and Neighborhood Records grabbed on to Watts Up Productions "Bangin" style of music.Watts Up Productions has worked with artist such as..Mac 10,the Comrads,Da Watts Gangstas,Kam,MC Ren and a host of West Coast artist.Today Watts Up Productions consist of..Big Jess, his son P-Nutt and the newest edition to the production team J-DUbb (BiG JeSSs 9 yr. old son who plays guitar & drums).Look out for Watts Ups 2008 HOTTNESS!!
