The reviews are in:
"Mekano 46’s vision is strong, clear & unrelenting.
"To review an album within a period of weeks of its release is a task that doesn’t sit well with me. Great albums should be given the test of time at least a couple of years to see if it stands up. However when listening to Mekano 46’s debut album “Mind Collage†one gets the distinct feeling that this will endure quite well indeed.
"Being songwriter Don Traverso’s first release one would be mistaken for thinking that this is a 3rd or 4th with its well structured & self-assured demeanor.
“Easter†opens the album with its trippy upbeat trance/ new age vibe, which immediately take the listener on a somewhat unnerving, understated and edgy journey.
“Synthetic Synaesthesia†is a minimalist approach intertwining a beautiful keyboard hook. Naughty samples are afoot in the crunching “Psychic Zero†and when the apocalyptic “Attack†kicks in with its super crunch guitars you realize that Mind Collage has the absolute right and poetic licence to go wherever it pleases.
"The album has its share of awe inspiring samples which offer sometimes a wry sense of humor and at other times bombards you with a kind of brute force as in “Shooting the Children (Iraq version)†with its voice samples that reach a cataclysmic crescendo finishing with a drum rudimental rhythmic base made up of various types of war guns & explosions. Perfect for any war fan!
"The album creates some rather beautiful serene soundscapes that are quite picturesque in their understated manner, it also has its fair share of hook riffs that tend to bind as well as separate the audio limbs of the listener, like that of “The Pertinence of Doctor Caligariâ€. Where we see key loops, guitar hooks sitting over a bed of what sounds like an army squadron marching double time. Throw in some severe but great audio panning & you’ve got a stand out track.
“Subversive Movements†synth flows like an eighties dreamscape - nicely arranged giving the listener a free & open space to accept the flow of the song, then all of a sudden turns wicked. This being a prime example of Mind Collage’s beauty – it can change direction on you anytime. Which is a real treat for the listener.
“Space Cicada Sex (Natures Way)†is exactly that – the sound of Cicadas having fun.
“The Calm Belies the Storm†concludes Mind Collage with which offers a bright and danceable cosmic treat. The almost quadrapuntal arrangement finishes up what is a remarkable debut that is sure to dazzle those who are open minded enough to lend it their ears.
"Mekano 46’s “Mind Collage†is seldom-predictable & should have the listener in immediately, it is in my mind a piece of art that uses some extraordinary colors and pulses that at times paint a dark, brooding, unrelenting but calculated image.
"Always challenging to the listener – with it’s sense of humour, which in turn asks the question to the punter listening do you feel lucky… well…. forces one to make up his/her own mind if they indeed are." - Kobe Corman of the band Earth Goat
