About Me

FOLK W/ SHADES OF BLUE is a music outreach of the Ortonville Community Historical Society. We strive to provide acoustic musicians with an opportunity to meet and share traditional and original music. Open acoustic jams are held every first Friday of the month, October thru May at the Old Town Hall in downtown Ortonville. For the past 5 years, musicians have gathered and shared music. All genres are welcome as long as the instruments are acoustic; an electric bass is welcome as long as a stand up isn't available. For the past three years, musicians have been taking our historical 139 year old stage. Our events are supported thru door donations. It is our mind set that even though modern technology has assisted us greatly in music making, music traditions are important and need to be maintained and passed on. Thus, all of our performances demonstrate a tradition and how it has been built upon. Various genres & traditions have been showcased on our stage, including but not limited to blues, folk, bluegrass, old time, gospel, country, classic rock and jazz. We require that all our musicians play hollowed bodied instruments, plugged in is okay, but we lean strongly towards the acoustic sound. New this year, are our "local talent" spots. We are looking for local talent (MI) that would like to open before our main acts. 3 songs or less, averaging about 2.5 - 3 minutes each. If you are interested, just send us your mp3's and contact info. Check our calendar of events on the website and let us know which event your interested in opening for. We prefer no more than a trio, as we don't want to be moving around too much equipment. Original works are warmly welcome! Folk w/Shades of Blue when possible will try to provide workshop opportunities at reasonable prices (to pay the artists. We are non profit and all donations are used to pay and promote artists. All our events are volunteer efforts. For more information, be sure to check out our webpage. www.folkwithshadesofblue.com All our events are donations at the door. The state of Michigan is suffering more than others; unemployment is running high and many people are struggling to find another. If you are struggling at this time, please, attend our events. Music heals the tired or saddened soul. And, if your more fortunate, please consider making a donation to support the music and keep it coming. Your attendance is often all the support we need. Building on what has started at the Old Town Hall, "Friendly Folk Jammin Fridays" continue every Friday night throughout downtown Ortonville once the weather breaks (May). mspmb allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" enableJSURL="false" enableHREF="false" saveEmbedTags="true" enableJavaScript="false"

My Interests

Providing musicians/artists opportunities to gather and share music - upholding, passing & building on traditions Sharing great talent with the community at prices the whole family can afford. Concerts were free and we asked for donations, now we require the door fee (folks didn't want to pay?) BUT if you really have lost your job, come anyway and bring the whole family. If you haven't lost your job we sure need your support! And always, kids 12 and under are FREE!
