Hmm, about me...I’m
Christopher Pierce...a master’s student at UTSA. Moved to San Antonio about a year and a half ago from small town, Missouri… where I was raised as a country boy (believe it or not!) on a farm with milk cows, horses, baby calves to feed, and hay hauling…and then I HATED it. But looking back, I’d want it no other way...the daily chores, the hard work, and the responsibility...all contributed to my sensible character. So now, maybe I don’t really hate it, but I’m definitely enjoying life outside of that small Midwestern town of only 300 people.
As for things I enjoy...green tea at Starbucks, dancing, drinking, chillin’ with friends, people with a positive look on life, painting and redecorating, city life, new socks, traveling, researching Candida albicans for my master’s, shopping, La Cantera, soaking up sun, eating cheese, haircuts, a kid’s smile, four-wheeling, the color red, rollercoasters, tubing, power tumbling, sweet tea (especially Bill’s), chocolate covered strawberries...
What makes me happiest...traveling and experiencing new adventures…I love nothing more than the excitement of going to a new place...not knowing what to expect, who anyone is, or where anything’s located…I’d say life in Northern Ireland was perhaps one of the most exciting of these adventures...two suitcases, a plane ticket, and the address of the University of Ulster...and I was off to live somewhere I’ve never been before. That five months was filled with Irish culture; learning who I was (which is a continuing education); a small flat with 2 Irish guys, a female alcoholic loner, and me (the foreigner); mini weekend travels to London, Dublin, wee villages scattered thru out Ireland, and a few extended stays in Germany, France, Scotland, and England; rain, gloom, and rainbows; new friends from all around the world; and of course, a little bit of school work (that was the reason I was there). My next big adventure...was my move to San Antonio….the chance to live in a city (one that has more to offer than a combination post office/bank and a gas station), knowing no one, and putting yourself in a situation where you must explore...new people, new activities, new lifestyle. Everyday should be a journey...spontaneity, anticipation, and the unpredicted.
