About Me

BIOGRAPHY: I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by music and people who love it, for as long as I can remember. My mother is an excellent singer who always sang to us, and has an amazing musical ear. She taught us to sing. Her father was a jazz pianist who played in the clubs around Vancouver in the 1950's and 60's. He took my uncle, as a small boy, to one of his rehearsals, and the band leader gave my uncle his conducting baton, and sat him on his piano. The band leader turned out to be Nat King Cole. My family is notoriously loud, in a good way, and is filled with people who will peel into a song at the top of their voices at the drop of a hat. My mother would always be singing, sometimes strange little songs that we thought she'd made up. Later, when I started working in local record stores, I would hear old recordings of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Ella Fitzgerald, and realise that those songs weren't just funny little tunes that I'd heard my mother sing. I took guitar lessons when I was nine, and quit, but kept playing. I started writing songs when I was thirteen, and never stopped. I've been really lucky to play with so many amazing musicians in all types of bands, on any type of instrument they would let me play. I have made two albums, and now I'm really excited to say that I'm starting to make a third recording with producer David Gannett. It just gets better and better.
