Bertell Young“Coming from the streets†is a commonly used colloquialism by many R&B artists today, but for Bertell Young, when he says he is from the streets, he is speaking from the heart. Raised in the rough streets of southwest Houston, young Bertell experienced first hand what it is like to be homeless, which makes his story even more remarkable. He is known across the south as one of the hardest working young artists in the industry, and is frequently seen in the streets of Houston (in his signature wrapped Suburban) out promoting his music. Bertell hasn’t forgotten his humble beginnings--he recently performed in a huge strictly charity event in Lake Charles for Hurricane Katrina victims.Bertell has worked with some of the top artists and producers in the industry including Adonis Strophshire, Johnta Austin, Royal Bayyan, Tim Owens, Billy Hume, Lil’ Flip, , Dem Franchise Boyz, grammy winning producer Brian Michael Cox. He has opened for R. Kelly, Bobby Valentino, Trey Songz, Scarface, Lil Flip, Mike Jones, Bun B, Chamillionaire, and more. Bertell’s first single “Shorty What That Do†featuring Dem Franchize Boyz received over 1500 radio spins in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois, New York, Georgia, Arkansas, and Florida. He has sold over 18,000 copies of his R&B mix tape "Street Therapy vol.1", ringing ears across the south. He hosted the video shows “Street Flava†(UPN), “Hot TV†(channel 51), and “Big City†(UPN). He headlined at the infamous “Live at the Apollo Theaterâ€, and his “Shorty What That Do†video was shown on BET and other video shows across the nation. Bertell is not just popular domestically--his music has been heard in Germany, the UK, Dubai, and other countries across the world. He performed during the 2007 NBA All Star Weekend in Houston in connection with BET, “the Black Carpetâ€, and has been featured in Rollin’ Out, Indie, and Industri magazines and by Flo Anthony. An astute businessman, Bertell is one of the few artists to own his own label, Upscale Records, and he recently signed a management contract with Bowie & Cox Management, a new company formed by grammy-winning R&B producer Bryan Michael Cox and partner Don Bowie. His entrepreneurial spirit and hustle have lead him to become one of top unsigned R&B prospects in the country, and his new hit singles "So Fly†and “I’m Tryin’" are spinning in radio stations across the south. Get ready for his new debut album "My Own Lane" to be released in the fall of 2008.
