About Me

SONG LIST:Track 1: Fusion - This is a song that is meant for my solo project if I ever get it done. Actually this is a remix done by my man 2%. The original track was done by Vinnie Saletto. Check him out at screamingsound.com.
Track 2: False Peaks - This song is on my man Skoolz's album. I guest appeared on this track and another track called I'm Gonna. My verse is the second verse. Check out that Graffiti Death Album. That shit is bangin. If you're in for something different that will challenge your ears, this is the album for you. Track 3: Ode to Gil Scott Heron - This track was the result of a collaboration at an artist residency that I did at Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2001. One of the teaching artists in the residency was Saul Williams. He was super cool and honored me by adding a verse to my track. The original music was produced by my friend Levi who I met at the residency, however I've lost my copy. So this is a remix produced by Vinnie Saletto. I thought his industrial sounding production would meld well with the subject matter of the track. Of course the song is dedicated to Gil Scott Heron the spoken word artist and proto-rapper for whom it was named. It is structured around the poem "Whitey's on the Moon".
My life with Redtide began in 1996. I was going to Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida and MCing at any open Mic events that I could. There was a friend of mine who told me about this dope MC named Skoolz who went to New College which is right down the street from Ringling. So I went to this open mic at New College. Me and Skoolz free styled together a little and the vibe was tight. Skoolz said he had this crew Redtide. He introduced me to Lazy and 2% and I eventually joined. We later moved to Tampa in late 98, early 99 after the release of our first EP Rogue MCs. We've been trying to push the envelope of Hip Hop ever since. My crew, mainly Lazy, promotes for most of the underground hip hop shows that come through Tampa. Skoolz has since left for Cali and has formed a new group Graffiti Death Threat. It's incredible, check it out. Also check out Lazy's radio show on 88.5 FM in Tampa. If you want to listen on the net, go to WMNF.org. The show is on Tuesday nights/Wednesday morning from 1am-4am. It is Tampa's most cutting edge hip hop show.

Influences:

I have so many musical influences that it's hard to list them all, so I'll just ramble on and add more to my list as I think of them. These aren't in any order of importance, but here goes: Kool Keith, Saul Williams, El-P, Mr Lif, basically anyone on the Def Jux label, Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Mikah 9, basically any of the Project Blowed or Freestyle Fellowship, and currently really on Bus Driver's dick. Bjork, Lyrics Born, MF Doom,

Some Florida locals include Sol-illaquists of Sound, the VOID, Bluebird, X:144, Surreal, anyway, look these cats up.

As far as old shit, Parliament Funkadelic, Johnny Guitar Watson, Al Green, BT Express, Rufus, Aretha Franklin, Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown... you get the picture.

Most of the above listed musicians are not only dope to me, but they inspire me to make music. The other thing that inspires me to make music is anime. I'm deep into it. Not that I just saw Akira 10 years ago and think I'm hip into it, but deep into that shit. Don't get me wrong, I love the classics, anything by Miyazaki, Otomo, or Mamoru Oshii is the shit, but I'm always hunting for the newest shit. Currently what's got me tripping is Samurai Champloo, Macross Zero, Yukikaze, the new Appleseed movie has dope Mech scenes but the people suck, Cashern is pretty tight even though it's not really animation, Ghost in the Shell second gig has been dope so far, anyway the list goes on and on, but if you love anime, holler at your boy.

Other miscellaneous things that influence me include my favorite news programs Democracy Now, and Counterspin. I'm tired now, I'll list more later!
