djdmp / interview:Q: When did you first start djing? A: I started djing with friend Scott Hamilton (dj fremont slim) in the 6th grade Doing house parties, school dances and NE. Portland YMCA dances. Q: What kind of music were you playing back then? A: Hip-hop & r&b. (Heavy d, salt & pepa, Kid & Play, new edition, al b sure) etc.. Q: When did you start djing night clubs. A: When I was 15 I started djing all age night clubs playing hip-hop & doing rave (chill rooms) playing underground hip-hop, downtempo & instrumentals. Q: When did you start performing with live bands? A: When I was 20 I joined my little brother (KP)’s group (proz and conz) for a few years Producing two albums and opened and or toured with The Pharcyde, Jurrasic 5, Wu Tang Clan, blackalicious, Hieroglyphics and others… A few years later joined my brothers new group (LAB). With them opened and or toured with The Roots, De La Soul, The Coup, J-Live, Lifesavas, Boom Bap Project and others… Q: I understand that you held a 5+ year residency in a Portland Night club. A: Yea, I played at the 1201 for about 5 years with Fremont Slim. We had weekly rotating guest djs Rev. Shines, Magneto, Nik Fury, Mach-one, bluchris, saltfiend, Kez, N.Diggy, j-boogie, z-trip and others… Q: What now? A: I now live deep in the southwestern Rocky Mountains (Crested Butte) and opening a bar/resturant “the dogwood cocktail cabin” and have a radio show playing mostly Soul music. I perform live about once a month around Colorado and play in Portland about once every four months with djs Fremont Slim & Rev. Shines. Q: What can people expect to hear from you at a dj gig? A: Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Prince, M.Jackson, Lifesavas, Little Brother, Blondie & Dee-lite. Q: The Scene? A: A straight up classic dance party! B-boys & bombshells!
