It didn't take long though before John Alexander decided to start working on his first ever solo album. Originally from Sweden Alex began writing in the demo studio in his hometown Uppsala (a small town in the Stockholm area). But he soon decided to move the base permanently to Berlin, for inspiration and change of scenery. In a rented flat in the former eastern part of Berlin work progressed on the album that very early had the working title 'Songs for quiet souls'. Nights were spent in many of the local bars and most of the lyrics were penned in the small hours... just to be recorded the very next day. 'Most of the songs were written quite fast on acoustic guitar... the chords plus the vocal melody just singing a nonsens lyric. Then I would keep the melody in my head and go out to some all-night open bar and write the acctual words. It was a quite nice working method...' Records John Alexander listened to at the time were from the likes of Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Nine Inch Nails, Tim Buckley, Sigur Ros and Jaques Brel... to name a few artist that might...or might not have influenced the music... Most of the material was recorded at home straight into the computer...but for the mix and the overdubs the decision was made to finish the album at K4 Tonstudios in Berlin, located by the river Spree in a former DDR radio broadcasting studio. "Songs For Quiet Souls" was released in the summer of 2004.--------- 2005 saw the release of the more stripped down acoustic album "Savannah Songs". The album was recorded in a few days in a small studio in Sweden with only guitar, voice and an old string machine. "Savannah Songs" was later mixed in Berlin. John Alexander Ericson has lately been touring Europe with Edison Woods (US) and Nicolai Dunger (Swe).--------- Alex recently signed Kalinkaland Records and his new album "Black Clockworks" will be released in 2006--------------------------------- John Alexander is now based in London where he´s also working with a new music project called STJARNA------------------------Check out STJARNA here:www.myspace.com/stjarnamusic--------------------------- Press Feedback:"A swede stops the world for a moment" "crystal like...timeless..a little master piece" - Album of the Week- Tip Magazine, Berlin."Ericson sings like a Scandinavian Thom Yorke...Pity Mr. Yorke: if he'd ever entertained notions of pulling an Ashcroft, splitting with Radiohead and going solo with a big-screen vocal pop record, Songs for Quiet Souls dashes 'em. Seems someone's beaten him to it.-Splendid Mag.(Usa)"Something tells me we can expect great things from this man in the future..." Zero Mag. (Sweden)"Blue Victoria, Vampires in Searchlights, Subnation and In orbit around another star are all great songs to listen to for a long time...repeat favourites...Grove Mag.
