The Critical Mass Collective started by Infidel (Patrick) and Mudboy/Dr Nitrogen (Ian) is made up of a group of South Wales Based (and mostly bred) DJs and creative artists - electronic-dance music & festival loving individuals, some of whom have been involved in electronic music for years. The launch night for Critical Mass came about in December 2005 after months of planning and preparation! Critical Mass is Cardiff's Original Regular Psytrance (& other Electronic) Party, bereft of this particular excellent form of electronic music in Cardiff a few of us decided to start our own night. Having experienced the heights of musical and visual pleasure at other psytrance nights such as the Tribe of Frog or Twisted Toadstool Nights in Bristol or London for Whirl Y Gig, Escape From Samsara, etc - we wanted to bring the free party feel in a club to Cardiff. As we have two of the best DnB DJs around - Alex-Mondo and Mark Veysey-Ay-Z (who to be fair plays techno and psytrance just as well as he does DnB), we slung in some of that with some techno too to smooth the transition on the night between the styles when we had the one room club. Starting in April 2006 we moved venue to the Red Rooms (Now 'MOVE'), Mill Lane, in Cardiff and had 3 rooms, the HOUSE of CRITMASS is building ever bigger where the Psytrance & techno floated up on high of course to the attic, the DnB got down and dirty in the Bassment and the rest of the sounds slouched around in the Tribal lounge! As we are all very creative the look of the night in the club is enthralling with UV Drops done by a few of us. Our nights now pull in a good crowd and each night gets better and more enjoyable than the last! Having been to an excellent electronic night at Newport Uni called TEST YOUR BREAKS, we bumped into a very talented and friendly crew who we now have as Resident DJs who are Graham Acidic, Will Mix, DJ Hoax, Weebles Wobbles & Duvz.
DJs who have played previous nights - Toad (from Bristol's Twisted Toadstool), Alex Calver & Mike Andrews (Glitch Recs), HY-DRA, Seneca(Rugland Records), Paranoid Android(psy-forum), Frank (Twisted Clarity), Rebellion(BASIS), Mod(REWIND), Piffle(Firefest), Mish Mash(7 Sins), Analogue People, AN-D, Odessa, Stereo Minus One(MACHINE-RECORDS), Russ Evora, Slamfish, Hannah, Intel Splinters, Brothers of the 23rd Degree, Techtonic, Specific, Undercover Elements, Trinity, DJ Zylem, French Freddie & DJ Kaj, with live drummers-Weapons of Mass Percussion and Uncle-Jams-Cabin. Its quite a party, we all have a passion for this and Ian aka Dr Nitrogen/Mudboy has worked hard to keep it going and promotes the night with help from members of the Collective - namely Alex (Mondo), Graham Acidic, Dave Hoax, Mark (Ay-Z) & Duvz, Nick-Visuals, Tessa-photographer, Lisa-Publicity Assistant, Paval & Tugsan. Rahsan was on board to design the flyers and helped do some decor & run the door for a few nights. Due to the lack of a decent venue
situation in Cardiff, we're off to The Monkey Bar in Swansea for our next party on October 22nd which is a joint night with a Drum n Bass Promoter in aid of Oxfam!
