SCALEZ - Formally J.R. Da Supastar

About Me

SCALEZ
His style – universal. His flow – undeniable. After hitting the streets hard with his solo debut Die Another Day, he’s back and ready to keep heads bobbin’ while riding "N-traffik". He has the makings of a legend in the rap game and the smarts to be a mogul in the music industry.
Meet "SCALEZ" (formally - J.R. Da Superstar!)
Born in Oakland, CA to Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, Harvey Scales, Sr. of Harvey Scales and The Seven Sounds, SCALEZ was born with music in his blood. In the early eighties, he moved back to Milwaukee with his mother and older sister after living in Oakland. This was around the same time that gangs, crack and hip-hop exploded. Meanwhile, Harvey Scales, Sr. was touring the country and would always come back to his hometown to do shows. He always included a young SCALEZ and at the tender age of five, the youngin’ would do whatever he could to out do his dad onstage. That’s when it became evident that a young star was born!
Learning everything he could from his older sister about hip-hop, a 5-year-old SCALEZ had songs like “The Show” by The Get Fresh Crew as well as all of his father’s recordings memorized after only hearing them a couple of times. Influenced by A Tribe Called Quest, N.W.A., Public Enemy and Digital Underground, he started his first rap group at the age of 11 with his cousin and childhood friend. Hip-hop music was becoming globalized and SCALEZ had fallen in love. Hip-Hop had stolen his heart.
Throughout the years, SCALEZ went back and forth with music, but never abandoned it. In order to hone in on his skills, he got on the grind doing his homework, educating himself on the inner workings of the music business. He hooked up with DJs, A&Rs, and the streets making a name for himself.
After releasing his solo debut Die Another Day in June 2005, SCALEZ had the streets poppin’ with his hot beats and lyrical prowess. The album received rave reviews and introduced everyone to a young aspiring emcee who was serious about his art. Instead of using clever metaphors, SCALEZ opted to do an album that was all about real talk and the places he’d been in life. A musical gumbo, DIE ANOTHER DAY created a huge buzz for the budding star. Even though the album was well-received, SCALEZ kept hearing that the album was great, but missing something – more of SCALEZ. So just like any real superstar at heart, he went back to the lab and like a mad scientist; he’s created a masterpiece in his sophomore effort N-Traffik.
N-Traffik is SCALEZ's ode to the streets of Milwaukee. After being home for three years, it was important to do an album that reflected his surroundings to bring more of his identity to his music. “N-Traffik is more of me and my own identity. I’m a product of my environment.”
SCALEZ HAS SIGNED TO INDIE LABEL, DONRICO RECORDS... AND DROPPIN IN TRAFFIK IN JANUARY 2008 IN ATLANTA, NY, MIAMI & THE BAY AREA..!!
