Books:

Hmm, it's so difficult to say all time favourites, but recent fiction has included: Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being; Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist; John Fowles, The Magus; Jeffery Eugenies, Middlesex; Thomas Hardy, Jude the Obscure and Iris Murdoch, The Sea, The Sea. Non-fiction is also pretty good for me, especially material that explores the human spirit and the nature of existence. By my bedside at the moment you will find: John Berger, Ways of Seeing; Chadwick, Women Artists and the Surrealist Movement; Schulke, Viridarium Umbris.
