CIARA - THE EVOLUTION
Track 3 – The Evolution of Music (Interlude)
“When I listen to the radio I feel like music is so different than what it used to be, and because of that I was inspired to do something different this time around, the evolution of music.”
Unfortunately, Ciara’s evolution doesn’t deliver anything different at all. In fact she’s probably guiltier of borrowing from the R&B and Hip Hop of yester-year than adding any significant body of music. While her personal evolution may be arguable, her artistic one is more obviously a ruse. In a climate now where it’s trendy to whine about the state of R&B (and Hip Hop) and proclaim oneself a siren of the second coming, it’s hard to fathom how Ciara believes Evolution isn’t just another one on the pile. But perhaps I’m being a little harsh, this whole “music aint what it used to be” b.s. is just a real pet peeve of mine at the moment!
Objectively speaking, The Evolution is an enjoyable R&B album, especially if you’re looking for more major dancefloor burners to bump. Littered with a good handful of what are sure to be regular radio and DJ fodder, Ciara knows her strength and what her fans love her for.
