The Afronauts have landed and a new vibration has hit the Pittsburgh FM dial and global internet radio. Defying the boundaries between artistic genres, the Friday Afterhours on Radio Show takes a deep journey into the meaning of "rhythm" and "blues", "the good life" and "the life beyond". An eclectic mix of rare funk, soul, reggae, salsa, blues, indian classical, afrobeat, jazz, hip hop, electronic, acoustic, spoken word, gospel, batucada, bossa nova, indigenous world music, experimental dub, new wave, rock, ambient, songs of the humpback whale, Muhammad Ali lecturing kids about tooth decay, Bill Cosby talking to kids about Drugs, the Secret Lectures of Commander X and the infamous kitchen sink. With spotlights on cutting-edge local and international artists, live concert recordings, alternative interdimensional life perspectives, mystery school knowledge and music from NYC to London to Berlin to Addis Ababa to Mumbai to Tokyo to San Francisco to Sao Paulo and back to the 412. Radio like this has never existed on planet Earth.

Music:

Having made our Earthly presence known through one of the largest NPR stations in the country, we are often asked by the media to explain our mission and purpose. Tru Skool headz will instantly recognize the WYEP Friday Afterhours as a tribute to the musical philosophy of Sun Ra and the exploits of the legendary DJ from the ol' school known as The Electrifying Mojo . These beings of the Tru Skool walk among prophets heralding the arrival of a New Sonic Order. Rather than drop an endless list of influential artists or academic jargon like "cross genre exploration", "musical evolution", "radio theatre", or "the power of sound to spark the imagination" in explaining the Mothership's arrival on this planet, we share with you instead a more Earthbound experience of the 91.3 Afronauts :

Funky Pinball:

A Count of 4:

Funky Shapes:

Funky Ol' School:

The 6 Dollar Man:

1 to 20:

Secrets of the Pyramid:

The Mystery Box:

Old MacDonald Had a Spaceship:

The Martians Invade Planet Earth:
