On April 30, 1975 with the fall of Saigon overtaken by the Viet Cong, the war in Vietnam has ended. Post war resulted in many vietnamese refugee to fled all over the globe. Vietnam was in a state of reconstruction/empowerment by the communist government (the North). The third world country was in poverty, and still is today in mostly rural/urban area.
About 6 years later after the Vietnam war ended, a child was born named Ty-Quan (pronounce as Tee Woung) Hodac on Oct 31, 1981. He was born in a city of South Vietnam called Nha Trang. In Vietnamese, the meaning of Ty-Quan means "Lord of the Militia". Ty-Quan is the third child out of the 4 siblings (he have 1 sister and 2 brothers). When Ty-Quan was 2yrs old, tragedy struck his family when his sister died. She died from Malaria, in which at the time in Vietnam there was limited advancement in curing diseases/sickness.
Life in Vietnam wasn't so easy. The streets was always filled with trash, the air quality wasn't pleasant at all, there was no such things as flushing toilet or toilet paper, there was no tub or showers, water for showering was from a well, there was no laundry washer or dryer, no such things as jeans for your everyday wear, no such things as cable tv so you can only watch t.v. at night for an hour (mostly news) because that is the only time that its on. Basically South Vietnam was in poverty controlled by the Communist government.
His parents see no future if they were to raised Tyquan, and his 2 brothers in Vietnam. In 1989, his parents was sponsored to come to the USA. Eventhough moving to the US seems to be the right move, times were hard at first living in the U.S.A. because of language barriers to different traditions, there were many conflicts that he has to endure in the new land. Tyquan's family live in the urban neighborhood, and this is where he learned a lot about street knowledge, and gained a lot of wisdom from it. This is where he met Hip Hop.
Tyquan began his research on the Truth of HipHop. In his quest, it is when he read about Afrika Bambaataa and about the Universal Zulu Nation that caught his attention. Most principles and views that the UZN stands for about Hip Hop Culture he apply it to his daily life. He went on a mission to represent, and to show awareness about the Truth of Hip Hop and the power it has to empower the opress, misguided youth into a more positive route in life. It was in fall of 1999 when things took course for Tyquan as a bboy where he met a Hip Hop Activist named Bryan Roberts aka Activist. Bryan showed him the BBoy Summit 99 video tape, and from that day on he was hooked. Tyquan was a Hip Hop activist before he met Bryan, but never really took into account of being a B-Boy.
Eventhough Tyquan was 18 at the time, he was already a leader at heart. In 2000, he help lead, and started what to be known as the 4 Universal Elementz in Dayton, OH along with his brother Tiknology, Activist, Squirt, J-Ice. Later members were Flex, Tapu (R.I.P), Juan, Footnote, HentSix, DJ Nothin, DJ Sparechange, Speed, P-Dub, and Markee. 4UE represents all elements of Hip Hop Culture to do what his original mission was: provide awareness about the Truth of Hip Hop, and the power it has to empower the opress, misguided youth into a more positive route in life. 4UE did many outreach programs, seminars, workshops, performances, community services at many local High Schools, Universities, and Boys and Girls Clubs in order to open up the minds of many that views Hip Hop as a negative thing within society.
As a BBoy of 4UE Hip Hop group, Tyquan was out on another mission as a bboy to battle anyone in his path in his state, and to earn the respect of many in his own state, Ohio. His main rivals were bboys of Street Symphony Crew from Columbus, OH. From northern Cleveland to all the way south of Cincinnati, every bboy in the state of Ohio started to recognize a new bboy in the Ohio bboy scene named Tyquan.
Whenever he would go into another cities, he would call out other bboys from other cities. He was on a seek and destroy mission. Tyquan have always been inspired by bboys such as Crazy Legs, Ken Swift, Mr Wiggles, Frosty Freeze, Alien Ness, Flo Master, Poe One, Remind, KMel, Abstrakt, 7Gems (Nako, Burn1, Mr. Loose, Floor Phantom). He would always stay true to the dance as a student, learned from many respectable pioneers, and respect those that came before him.
On April, 25, 2005 after winning a jam in Illinois called IL Breaks. Alien Ness, President of Zulu Kingz, who saw Tyquan as a leader at heart, and a bboy that would bring a lot of noise to the crew, honored Tyquan to be part of the Legendary Crew. Tyquan would then lead the Mighty Zulu Kingz into new heights like never before granting him the leadership role as the Vice President of Zulu Kingz worldwide.
Also, in 2006, Tyquan was put down with the last BBoy crew to represent the BX (Bronx) legacy, Ready To Rock Crew. It was an honor for Tyquan to represent the first Bronx bboy crew, the Zulu Kingz, and the last Bronx bboy crew, Ready To Rock. It just fit right for Tyquan to be part of the Ready To Rock because Ready To Rock members met through Zulu Nation meetings, and were repping Zulu Kingz as well in the early 90s with Alien Ness. However, as time passes, majority of RTR members went about with their lives, but a bboy named Floor Phantom of the BX was on the frontline that kept RTR legacy alive. When Floor Phantom met with Tyquan it was a wrap. Tyquan and Floor Phantom were called the "Evil Twinz". Since they both already representing the first Bronx legacy, Zulu Kingz, and the chemistry was already there, Floor Phantom later wanted Tyquan to be down with Ready To Rock, the last Bronx legacy. Months later, the OG Ready To Rock members gave their blessings for Tyquan to rep.
Currently, at the age of 26, Tyquan has endure in many battles with his crew at many jams across the United States, and Worldwide by always putting his rep on the line, win, lose, or draw. Tyquan stay active as a member of Zulu Kingz/Ready To Rock, and part of an elite movement within the BBoy Community called Flava Squad. He stay active within the community by always promoting Zulu's Principles such as Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun to the youth within the urban neighborhoods to lead them in the correct route. Tyquan continue to lead his crew, Zulu Kingz, into many numerous battles that they have won. The biggest one of them all was Freestyle Session 10th Yr Anniv. in Hollywood, CA. Tyquan continue to train, battle, judge, perform, teach, and participate in outreach programs to support Hip Hop Culture, and to pass the torch to the next generation. The future is bright for this young brother, maybe his parents named him Tyquan (which means "Lord Of The Militia" in vietnamese) for a reason.
