About Me

elaine k is the writer of both lyrics and music and has gained critical acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic for her work. She has been writing and performing since her teens, gaining new skills and new confidence at every turn. Her style is contemporary, yet timeless, quirky and hooky, yet sensitive and mature. One of the major attractions cited by her fans is her ability to address matters of the heart without giving it the usual lollipop treatment.
In recent times, elaine k has been celebrating the success of as is - her long awaited and greatly anticipated follow up album to the hugely successful debut, yeah, really which was released in 1998. as is was released in 2004 and has brought new and even more crazed fans, to the front rows of her shows. From yeah, really, songs such as 'I Love You (& I Hate You)', 'My Fix' and 'All I Need' have given the supposed "love song" the good kick in the ass it has needed for so long. as is contains 12 original songs which display elaine k's ability for taking what you know, spinning it on its head and then handing it back to you before it breaks. From the tongue in cheek, heavy guitar driven Not About You to the tortured and argumentative You Should Have Known, elaine k fans have many reasons to be so transfixed. What hits you first is down to only you. Her voice. Her energy. Her honesty. Her simplicity. Her complexity. Her talent for writing it like it is yet delivering the brutal truth in a poetic manner. Her gift for belting you on the back of the head with a gentle stroke. Her enjoyment. Her quick-witted banter. Her capacity to connect, truly connect.
what should i not know?
elaine k was once considering a career as a physiotherapist. However, after mispelling the word several times on her college applications, she reconsidered.
Tellytubs and clowns scare the crap out of elaine k...
elaine k likes to hide her own money on herself in pockets of jackets and jeans etc claiming surprise when she comes across the loot.
elaine k had a tattoo done several years ago claiming that only people 'extremely close' to her would ever get to see it. Meanwhile, the 1,083 people who were 'lucky enough' to see it are in intensive therapy.
If elaine k ever comes to your house, don't feed her raisins or currants. She believes it to be an urban myth that these are dried fruits and instead maintains that they are in fact dead flies. Fig rolls and fig newtons therefore, are simply 'fly cemetarys'.
elaine k is the love child of Elvis Presley and Janis Joplin.

Sounds Like: When trying to let others know who elaine sounds similar to in style, fans and press have used some of the following names; Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, Tracy Chapman, Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynne, Sade, Sinead O'Connor, Janis Joplin and even Pink Floyd. The list is long and varied forcing the consensus to become that she has simply made her own genre although she laughs at the notion herself.
