About Me
This musically gifted and witty artist made his debut onto the rap scene in early 1997 with Shut ‘Em Down Records. This local label released True Independence, a collaboration of Windsor artists. This album gave Bruce a solid consumer base and first time recognition in the street. After leaving Shut ‘Em Down Records in 1999, he teamed up with local rap artist Reveal and formed the group Black Listed. Together they produced Ontario’s Finest, which is a combination of Bruce’s clever metaphors and original beats.
In September 2001, Bruce founded R.A.W. Records. Now as owner of his own label, local rap artist Lee Roc was recruited and the two formed the group IMC. IMC released the hit album Perfect Chemistry, which features “Tear It Up†and “Infinite Barsâ€, which were huge hits with fans and ultimately established the label as one of the best in Windsor.
In 2002, R.A.W. Records released Bruce’s first solo project, the highly anticipated album Ready & Willin’. This album created a huge buzz in the street and gave Bruce credibility as an underground legend. Soon after, he decided to add variety to the label’s sound and signed local R & B singer D. Smith. D. Smith added just the right amount of flavor and is featured on hits like “Please Me†and “I Love Ya’â€.
In 2003, two other local rap artists J-Rize and Nekos of the group XZ’s, were signed to the R.A.W. label. Later in the year, they released Street Values, which proved to be extremely successful. In the same year, Bruce joins forces with Windsor rapper Kannibalistik to record The Formation of the Cult Compilation, which broadened his listener base and achieves huge internet success.
In 2004, R.A.W artist Nekos, releases his debut solo album Breaking Point 1. The album displays the talent of the artist by showing off his lyricism, unique sound, flow and wit. IT features hits like “How you Want it†and “Breaking Pointâ€. The release challenges the competition to match its success. In 2005, Bruce B releases his first mixtape titled Bruce B’s K1 Mixtape; Grand Theft Audio Volume 1.. The mixtape is pure and uncut and served to the underground circuit raw. It combines heavy beats with Bruce B’s hard delivery of grimy lyrics and is highly successful locally. The mixtape creates a buzz for the highly anticipated release of the label’s collaboration RAW CAMP.
Finally, in 2005, the highly anticipated R.A.W. Records Collaboration CD RAW CAMP is released. Members of the CAMP; Bruce B, Nekos, D. Smith and J-Rize combine all their talent into the most thorough, most unique, most creative album to be released by any Windsor artist or group. The album immediately gains the respect of local fans and listeners with hits like “40 Cal’d Upâ€, “Poppin’ Barettasâ€, and “Bang out†and is distributed to all major SWO cities. The album sets the benchmark for rap/hip hop in the city and as the executive producer, is Jason Land’s most proud accomplishment thus far.
Most recently, the R.A.W. label released the second solo album by Nekos entitled Breaking Point 2. The album finished where the first left off, leaving nothing to be desired. Nekos pours his life, drama and struggles into every line and verse and leaves the listener beggin for more. The joint features bangin hits like “Breaking Point 2â€, “What the Bizz Be†and “Drink Upâ€. It also features hit artists JD Era and Johnny Rox who add the right amount of Canadian heat to the album.
The projects and accomplishments of the label founded by Jason Land and the quality music that is released by the artists and his alter-ego Bruce B will not cease. Fans should keep the R.A.W CAMP fresh in their minds and witness their takeover of Canadian rap/hip hop. Also be on the look out for the soon to be released solo project by Bruce B in 2007!
