Born Kellen Scott , this rapper/producer began as early as he could write. His first rap was written at the tender age of 5. Drawing inspiration from raps written by his older brother as well as taking after pioneers such as 2pac, N.W.A., and Notorious B.I.G., K. Illa developed an addiction for music that would prove to be more than just a hobby.
Raised in Detroits east 7 mile area, his family endured many of the hardships single parent households encounter. His mother worked hard to provide for her two sons while his father was a mere absent figure. With the pressures of his surroundings, as he grew, music became more than his passion, it was also a means of emotional ventilation. K. Illas music vividly describes the life many young people from urban upbringings experience and relate to. From gritty tales of street life, to his experiences with women,
Scotts main asset is his authenticity.
By 1998, K. Illa along with four Detroit artists formed the group I.R.S. Together they recorded the exceptionally well received album 4-15. With the help of P.O.W. Records and then manager Dave Wallace, 4-15 went on to sell an estimated 15,000 units independently in 2000. Performing became a major strong point for this group of talented teenagers. From shows with former Bad Boy recording artist Shyne, Shady/Aftermath artists Eminem and D12, veterans like R & B legend Keith Sweat, as well as countless others, this group developed a gift for mastering a ceremony. Their
popularity amongst Detroit talent earned them a spot in 105.9s coveted Summerjam in 2000. In 2002 they performed at B.E.Ts Soundstage (Orlando, Fla.) which showcased many up & coming acts in the music world.
What makes a great M.C.? What do these gifted individuals possess that continues to intrigue and influence so many people? Is it their stories, charisma, style, or simply their ability to captivate an audience and demand their attention? Whatever the cause, Kellen K. Illa Scott, is well on his way to being mentioned alongside hip-hops elite.{}
