Assuming you haven’t had enough hyperbole for one review, consider this – ever wondered what it might be like if Deftones showed up to one of their concerts and thought it would be funny to act like Napalm Death for an evening? I didn’t think so, but Brokeneck might be the answer either way.
Miraculously, it worked, though we may never know if this was methodically calculated or if the band simply threw whatever was available onto a wall and used what stuck. Spastic and flailing yet somehow composed and on point, the peninsula four-piece were one of the show’s biggest surprises, their wide-eyed, open-mouthed guitarist and vocalist vaulting across The Pound’s stage as though he was Donald Duck trying to navigate an exploding mine field, all the while maintaining the band’s intermittent hardcore blitzkrieg.
