I am here for Friends

About Me

Hello you, Nicholas was born at a very young age in the now defunct Stone Park Hospital in Beckenham in 1984. Incredibly he was born in the same place as David Sylvain lead singer of 80s new romantic hitsters 'Japan', but that's another story. Nicholas was a somewhat chubby child and grew up in a now undisclosed road, Bromley a mere stones throw from a thriving Waitrose and the now disgraced tax evading 'wisebuys'. At the age of 1 Nicholas moved a mere 4 roads away, placing him closer to American themed diner 'Yankee Doodles' than any of his envious friends. Nicholas spent the early years of his life shooting breeze at Kinnaird Playgroup on the Lewisham borders, before heading to the highly regarded Scotts Park Primary School to follow in his sister's smaller footsteps. At Scotts Park, Nicholas learnt the difference between stalagtites and stalagmites the hard way, enjoyed a choice between red and grey school sweatshirts and underwent a routine circumsistion operation. By the age of 11 he was a moderately regarded sportsman with a relatively uninspired imagination that helped create the overlooked literary classic 'Fishokaratesaurus'. Yet that year both Bromley and Nicholas felt the winds of change, as good old Yankee Doodles became the Raj Moni and young Nicholas headed south, to St Olaves Grammar School in Orpington where he quickly distinguished himself through a series of tasteless science videos and a behavioural pattern of someone with a moderate case of ADHD. A series of disturbing events where Nicholas dressed up as a Lockerbie Bomber, swore profusely at a 11 year old rugby team and hounded a teacher out of school led to a fraught relationship with his nemesis Headteacher Tony 'look at me I'm a freemason' Jarvis, leading to punishments a plenty and an increasing lack of respect for adults. What Nicholas needed was a fresh challenge and in 2003 he headed north to the city of Manchester, home of asbos, Gary Neville and Owens Park - his halls of residence for his first year at University. Studying history, Nicholas enjoyed learning about Thucydides, Stanley Baldwin, Philip of Valois and the many 'characters' of the Provisional Emergency Cotton Committee. Between 2004 and 2006 Nicholas happily resided within the comfortable family astmosphere of Derby Road, Fallowfield living alongside 5 amigos, all of reasonably average height and varying musical talent. You join him now in the Summer of 2006, where having graduated Nicholas plies his trade in a series of soul destroying data entry and admin jobs in the city of Westminster as he has done for the 2 summers previous. By September he will have moved into his new flat in Withington, Manchester in search of new challenges, yet for now he is happy to say 'I was there' or 'that was me' or 'I've no regrets' or 'don't judge me cos you dont even know me' about his past 21 years. His aspirations for the future include buying Bromley Football Club off the current 'in house favour loving owner' and writing something that gets on television. He suspects neither of these will ever happen. I will update this section if I reach 42 years of age.

My Interests

Global football, terraces, British hooligans, 1979, 1980, cups of hot bovril, Marco Van Basten in his prime, the last line of defence in 5 a side, internet football forum post match backlash, spending more time at school practising goal celebrations than football (Bebeto, Tomas Brolin, Fabrizio Ravanelli), Britpop memories, shoegaze dreams, grunge reconstructions, drum machines, club nights that don't play the Pipettes, but club nights that do play Eloise by The Damned, pre-judging films I haven't seen, Matthew Modine in Full Metal Jacket, I like people who respect television as being as important as books/films, TV viewing figures, chart positions, maps, serial killers (Jeffrey Dahmer, Willie Bosket, Stephen Wright?), grubby shoes, same dress sense as in 1999, sweatbands, harking back to the Empire, abusing hippies, Carling Weekend memories rather than Glastonbury, the American Dream, baseball, kind females, drawing on people when drunk, being drawn on when drunk, chinchillas, never having seen a real badger, the Isle of Wight, sick jokes, bad jokes, far right flirtations, local history, the Thatcher years, everything from Palmerston through to Churchill (the first term), smoking weed while listening to Fugazi, Challenge TV, constant toying with the idea of getting facebook (oh look I've joined, what an idiot I am. Myspace is way better), moaning about work, air hockey aspirations, Alan Hansen impersonations, Newcastle Brown, all day every day in pubs, Chessington World of Adventures, happiness over money, and eventually world domination.
