Music, Guitars, Politics, Writing, Songwriting, Poetry, Weightlifting, College Football, Law & Order, Mullets, sheltys, California Clubs (the sandwich), scandals, sandals, high crimes and misdemeanors, Chuck Norris (I interviewed him during the summer of '04. All those things they say about him are TRUE!), the underrated, The alarmingly high amount of mercury found in native freshwater fish species, sharks, kung pao chicken, handguns, the idea of crashing weddings for fun: I don't understand this; preacher curls, the Gospel of Mathew, the USS Diversity, avian bird flu (that's a redundant term), Will Ferrell, NEWSTALK 1620 WTAW, The New York Times, illegal immigrants, Dwight Yoakum (the guy is just an awesome guy--I know some people disagree with me, but I think his voice is just amazing) (same thing with Roy Orbison)(actually more so with Roy), Huge whitetail deer, Tempura rolls, Old-school Fender Twin Reverb and Bassman Amplifiers (because you can't beat vacuum tube technology). I think that's about all my interests.May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.... May you be content knowing you are a child of God... Let His presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.
A guitar player who's better than me.
I like to play blues, particularly electric blues, in the the styles of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper, Roy Buchanan, John Butler Trio, and others. I also like to play almost anything acoustic, and I like Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Willie Nelson, The Hudsons, Bob Schneider, Ben Harper (unbelieveably talented). I'm a huge Widespread Panic fan. I enjoyed Tupac and UGK when I was younger. I put some Biggie Smalls into the changer the other day and really enjoyed that. I like Dwight Yoakum and Allison Krauss too. Allison Krauss' voice is how I imagine angels to sound. I will always be able to jam Al Green no matter where I am or what I'm doing. His music is timeless and awesome. Lately I've been jamming hard with George Hill at the Tuesday night blues sessions. Last night I played at the Big Easy's Houston Blues Society Jam
"City of God" (the movie is about gangland drug violence in Rio de Janeiro--I highly recommend it. But be warned, the whole thing is in subtitles), "Motorcycle Diaries," "Saving Private Ryan," "The Graduate," and "Rain Man." "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," and any old James Bond movie with Sean Connery as Bond. Sean Connery will always be the real Bond. No one can wisecrack and womanize like Connery. I also love "American Psycho." People get nervous when I tell them this but I like it because of Christian Bale's acting and because of the film's parody of 80's materialism. Oh and Reese Witherspoon was in a film long ago called "Freeway." It's worth seeing. I also love an old movie called "Papillon," with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Those cats are classic. Hands down best actor: Christian Bale. Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon. It's just my opinion...300 is a new favorite.
I've started watching MTV again. It is so bad for me, I know. It is the trans fat of television. I still watch Fox News and CNN to get my political fix, The History Channel and Comedy Central are favorites, and I'm watching more network stuff these days. Scrubbs is my favorite show ever. Oh and Law & Order. I love that shiz. Oh, And Saturday Night Live reruns.
