I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. My dad got me intrested in baseball. I lived right outside of the High School ball field. My dad would take me over there everyday and just throw the ball around. My dad played old man softball (well my dad and his teamates were acually in there 30's). So anyways, he was a shortstop. I wanted to be just like my dad. I loved the yankees when i was a kid also. My role model was Don Mattingly. My dad was pretty harsh on me and my sister Sharlee for getting good grades. I remember him saying, "If you want to be a shortstop for the new york yankees, than you HAVE to get good grades.". I thank him for this because i got straight A's and I learned that school becomes first over anything. If I didn't make it in proffensional baseabll, I can always have a goal to be a buisness man, or work for the goverment and stuff like that. When i got into the minor leagues for the New York Yankees, I had a hard time. I made 56 errors in one year! My coaches really stepped up and they gave me the confidence and abbility to achive this goal of being a Major leaguer. I can't remember a time when I didn't want to be a shortstop for the new york yankees. When I finnaly got to play in the big leagues (1995) it was breath taking. My rookie year was great. Not for how I played but the sight of playing with Joe Torre, Bernie Williams, Paul O'neal, Scott Brosius, Marinao Rivera, Jorge Posada, Tino Martinez, Rodger Clemens, Andy Pettite, and on and on and on. The next year, we won the world series. That was very exciting. That was my first ring. Now I have 4 and hopefully, I will get another to add on to my jewlery collection.
