July 27th 2006 - Golden Lion
The Golden Lion on Saturday evening was filled with a varied crowd ranging from emo kids to regulars to a group of pirates sat at the bar, all there to see the two bands that were providing the evenings entertainment.
First up was young emo-core 5 piece Fire Fly, and with a set of largely covers they may have brought nothing new to the scene but once they hit their stride they played confidently and well given the limitations presented by trying to fit five people on a stage only marginally bigger than the drum kit.
Blasting through a range of emo that was mostly more the emotional side than the hardcore side they sadly had to end the set early due to the guitarist loosing two strings but prior to this they showed the promise that with some more original material and experience under their belt they could go far.
A great evenings entertainment then was provided by both acts with Fire Fly showing they have the potential to be a great addition to the local music scene.

Main support tonight came from the first of the evening's re-forming bands, FireFly. After only two practices since their resurrection the band really seem to have come on in leaps and bounds since I last saw them play nearly a year ago in The Golden Lion. Tonight their brand of emo-metal really blasted from the stage with the aid of a slightly more robust PA system than I have seen them play through previously.
Jamie of FireFly.
But it wasn't only their sound that made them come across so well tonight, but their improved stage presence and charisma, particularly from guitarist Martyn Brown whose time in Another Sinking Feeling over the past 9 months has really raised his game, and vocalist Jamie Ellington who has grown in presence immeasurably and has a voice which is growing to match.
Besides this FireFly succeeded in getting the first pit of the night going to one of their original songs and ended the set with the crowd wanting more following fan favourite 'A Moth In The Rain'.

August 1st 2007 @ Rogues
Following on from J.J. Corbin the energy levels were once again raised by emo-metallers, FireFly. Sounding even more developed than their last performance, this, their third show since reformation, really showed how they have developed their sound into a great crossover pop-metal style.
While not entirely suited to late on a Wednesday night, the band still sounded great and, while quite a number left during their set, their dedicated fans were there for them throughout.
Ending their set on a triumphant rendition of their signature song 'Moth In The Rain' (strangely complementing J.J. Corbin's set closer 'Butterflies'), the small but dedicated crowd would not let them leave the stage and were rewarded with not one, but two encores which went down very well.
