About Me

You think you know but you have no idea! Imagine being involved with music even before your first day of kindergarten. When I say being involved, we're talkin bout a 6 piece family band. You understand music so much that you can just sit there and watch your pops play the bass guitar and pick up any instrument and automatically know what lead parts work and which ones don't. Besides just growing up around older brothers and sisters that were into hip-hop music, Mayh3m! was exposed to the arts of mcing, djing, break-dancing, and graffiti first hand. Hip-hop was a big part of life growing up on Wayne Ave. on the westside of Columbus OH. The whole neighborhood would come to 69 S. Wayne to break-dance out on the front sidewalk. There wasn't any Nintendo, Playstation or Xbox to play with. You either played sports, were into comic books, or really got into music. The Denham/McNair family was raised to do any and everything we wanted to.....well. There were tons of first place trophies from talent show's, dance contest's and what not, lying around their house. Being the youngest, Mayh3m! was exposed to all the old school hip-hoppers that his older brothers and sisters listened to. As a youngster with his set of twin brothers, Mayh3m! performed in The Columbus Boy's Choir where he sang first soprano. The Concert Choir's piano player was the elementary school music teacher so Mayh3m! had plenty of extra time to perfect his pitch. As he got older....of course the voice got DEEP and is now the reason for people asking "What do you use to make your voice sound like that?" It's not a software program or vst plugin.....that's just the way Mayh3m! sounds.........and with no cigarettes!
After years of "jam sessions" with the family in the basement; Mayh3m! began to perfect his many crafts. Next door neighbor and now business partner Stephen Counts JR. (aka DJ Universe) was one of the first people to realize how serious music was to this family. He would sometimes have to sit at the door and wait until they would stop playing to be heard knocking on the door. By grade school, Mayh3m! had already carved out the musical path that was his destiny, joined The Imani Dance Co., and began learning to play the Djembe; along with other traditional African drums. He has always been able to rock the lunch room table or class room (while the teacher was out of course) since an early age. After years of home movies with the boys in the neighborhood and little league football, life started to gravitate towards hip-hop as a way of life. Mayh3m! and Jugganaut started rapping and dreaming of this life after they became friends in middle school. Mayh3m! was still always interested in the "behind the scenes" activity and the music more than the spotlight of the rap star life but he ran with it.
DJ Universe got a set of Technics 1200s and a PA system his freshman year so they could start spinning at the parties and dances at Briggs High School. This was the start of Productz of Society, Ltd. and we began to dj the local house parties and dances at alot of schools in Columbus. It was a pretty funny thing to be in class at a Columbus Public School, and an office messenger comes with a pass to get Mayh3m! and DJ POS2!! out of class to go DJ at another high school. What was even funnier is that we would get paid from the school system for doing what we loved. We got hated on by people but there were more people that just didn't understand what we were doing at a young age. We had the dopest house parties in Columbus and we kept it jumping like once or twice a week at times. During our senior year in high school, we all met over at DJ Universe's grandmother's crib and recorded Bruin Don Juan's. This project was an idea that DJ Universe and DJ POS2!! had, but it turned out to be the start of a movement that is still growing and spreading through the underground and mainstream in a pretty alarming manor. This album featured The 6 Assassins, (who are Will & I of Lost Lynk, Jugganaut , Byg Cheef of OPB , Kamikaze Kid, and Lou-Is ), Mayh3m!, and hosted by DJ Universe & DJ POS2!!. Jugganaut, Cheef, Kamikaze, Mayh3m! & POS2!! formed Da Gladiators and decided to hit up the studio and record a few songs. Due to the heavy musical background, it was only right for Mayh3m! to be the first one to step up to the plate and produce their first single "Da Gauntlet". Mayh3m! went off to college up in Michigan after that summer but didn't stop writing and honing his rhyme skills while in school. After a couple years in college, he was back in Columbus, OH. doin the damn thang with his family and peoples.
DJ Universe bought the Ensoniq ASR-X Pro, and a stand alone CD burner in 2000 and Productz of Society, Ltd. started their journey in music production as a company. Mayh3m! pretty much stayed behind that drum machine for weeks on end until he was comfortable enough to bang something out in about 10 minutes that could move a crowd. The love for the drum machine was fueled by being a percussionist since before anyone can remember. The Akai MPC2000, 2000XL, and 1000 can also be seen being beat on by the man, while creating that raw hip-hop shit. In about 2001, Mayh3m! was introduced to software beat-making on a PC with programs like FL Studio, Acid Pro, Reason, Ableton Live, and many others. Taking that same mentality from the drum machine into a step-time sequencing environment isn't exactly challenging, but it does take some time to get to know these programs enough to be able to do what you want with them. These quickly were added to the tools in the arsenal for Mayh3m! and Superb Entertainment.
After teaming up with fellow MC and high school friend Redhanded , the two put their heads together with Smash Atoms , and The Late Show was formed around 2000. Be on the lookout for new projects from The Late Show.
There has been no looking back for Mayh3m! after founding the soon to be major label Superb Entertainment .
