I first got in to promoting nights in the early to mid eighties during my teenage years. This happened out of necessity as much as anything else. The UK alternative/indie scene was still a good 8 years away from supporting itself and creating any lasting movement and my friends and I just didn't belong to the whole townie set. To be honest the mainstream 80's thing was just too alien for me and we didn't fit in. However during this decade it allowed me to venture and experiment with a whole host of underground music including Northern Soul, Rare R&B, Garage Rock, Freakbeat and the small rumblings of UK independent music. At the end of the 80's the UK was in a grip of the new house/acid movement but this didn't flick my switch either so when I first heard the music that was coming from bands like the Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Ride it was like seeing British music come alive again. I then decided to mix up what was happening with live music in the UK with all the underground music I had been experiencing during the 80's and The Buzz was born. Over the last 10 years I have been involved in booking live acts, securing venues, working with sound engineers, managing studio time, flyer and poster design, website building, and every other aspect of promoting, managing and running the night.
