Chicago based The Supernatural Yes formed in early 1995 by founding members Guitarist Kenny Payne and bassist Steve Sylvester. Actually, the band started out as Planet X but later changed their name when it was discovered too many bands in California had the same name! Kenny and Steve's chemistry shined as the two created a list of about ten punky/pop songs before bringing in Jason Royal, whose bouncy beats on the drums couldn't have been more perfect for Planet X's songs. Now, the only thing needed was a singer, someone with the perfect voice. The trio sought vocal talent throughout the city and briefly played with a singer or two but something just wasn't right. A month or so later Kenny and Steve decided to try a female vocal but didn't want anything too fluffy. After searching for a while their combined psychic energy led them to an ad in the Chicago Reader directing them to Kim Katz, formerly of Kim Katz and the Last Uncle. It only took one practice before the band knew they were on to something special. The true sound of the band was formed that night. Kim's sleek, unique voice was exactly what Planet X/The Supernatural Yes needed. The four quickly put a set together and were featured on Chicago TV's "Rock My Ass" just a month later.
Since, the band has taken many shapes and forms as far as members go with Kenny and Kim remaining in The Supernatural Yes to this day.
The band made a few demos as Planet X featuring their angry "Kick You in the Face" as well as the poppy/ uplifting "All Ways".
In 2000, not long after the band officially changed their name to The Supernatural Yes, their first full length CD was released, "True Love on Planet X". The band followed True Love up with an EP entitled "Juicy" in 2004". After "Juicy", the band went on a hiatus so Kenny and Kim could work on their next project - a full length documentary entitled, True Love on Planet X. The film covers The Supernatural Yes from their conception to current as well as the unfortunate tragedies surrounding Kim's life during her tenure as the band's front woman. Kim's brother and father were stricken with a rare disease called ataxia (in the Parkinson's family). The band had played many shows to raise awareness and money for the disease. Sadly, both have passed in 2005 but will always be fondly remembered by The Supernatural Yes and friends. The film will be completed sometime in May of 2006, in which the band will regroup in support of the film.
The band will also look to continue their "Eve's Garden of Rock" festivals. The annual festival was created by Kim Katz and brings some of Chicago's biggest acts together to play for such causes as The National Ataxia Foundation and Amnesty International.
