The song "The Dark Star" is a simile between - a star that collapses in on itself to form a black hole from which even light cannot escape, - and the emotional collapse of a soul that can no longer shine the light of life.The first album is a collection of songs that tell the story of a man who falls in love with a junkie who supplies her habit as a prostitute. He supports her to keep her from prostitution only to find himself continuously lied to and abused. When he discovers the relationship to be a lie and that she is in love with and pregnant by another, he experiences more than an emotional breakdown. His very being disintegrates and caves in on itself in the same way that a star collapses into a black hole. The man he used to be is destroyed, and in his place, The Dark Star enters into this world.The first half of the album tells the story of the relationship and the end of the mans original identity. The second half of the album tells the vision that The Dark Star brings to this world regarding the nature of reality.
