About Me
Born in Las Cruces, NM Michael Trujillo has been studying and performing music since the age of 7yrs. After starting in classical/orchestral percussion, he then quickly picked up studies on the drumset, performing in various school bands ranging from orchestras to jazz bands to marching bands. By 13yrs of age he was performing professionally in local groups around the region. With knowledge in many styles like jazz, rock, country, tejano, salsa etc. he performed with many groups and organizations at all the local clubs and venues also opening concerts for many famous groups when they toured the area. He also lead and managed his own 13 piece group, "The Untouchables" that quickly became one of the most popular throughout the region. His roles in the group included being the manager, producer, arranger, musical director, percussionist as well as the lead vocalist.
Michael continued his music studies through high school and upon graduation decided to attend Musicians Institute of Hollywood, CA earning a 2-year certificate in performance on the drumset. It was then that he became interested in ethnic percussion instruments and decided to further his education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA studying hand percussion in many different ethnic styles. Michael received a 2-year certificate in performance as well as a 4-year diploma in performance. While attending Berklee, he quickly became involved in the music scene through out the New England area and performed with many professional musicians like Giovanni Hidalgo, Horacio Hernandez, John Blackwell, Sheila E. and the list goes on. Michael has also toured Portugal, Europe, Canada and the U.S. with renowned group "ERATOXICA" (http://www.eratoxica.com) and performed on many audio recordings as well as live to DVD recordings.
Michael now resides in Los Angeles, CA where he performs regularly and has been blessed with opportunities to perform with people like Inocente Alvarez, Mario Quiroga, Manny Mendoza, Tommy Walker, Bob Wilson, Jerry Watts, Justo Almario, John Pena....etc.
