Before having a kid, I could easily read 2 books a week. I tend to read a lot of fantasy/sci-fi stuff. Octavia Butler is probably my all time fave author. Tananarive Due,"old" Poppy Z. Brite,Nola Hopkins,and Laurell K. Hamilton are other favorites. I have a toddler, so finishing a book these days takes FOREVER.I am, however, a shameless magazine whore. ...and thank the stars for this man. Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo. He entertains my little one long enough for me to endulge in my magazine habit.
MY HERO IS MY MOTHER. She's been through sooo much in her life including outliving more that one of her children. Yet she is content, open, and generous with her kind words, "mutha-wit", and infectious laughter. Despite all of the bullshit life has handed her, she has managed to overcome the bitterness that taints so many. I admire her patience, her spirit, her intelligence, knowlege, and her enourmous capacity to accept, understand, and love. Quoting Santino from Project Runway season 2, "MY MOM'S THE SHIT, Y'ALL!" ... Debra Wilson. Not only do I love her because she is funny as hell... ..she's the FIRST heavily tattooed black woman I've EVER seen on the cover of International Tattoo magazine.
