About Me

L is a dreamy, restless, curious, passionate, affectionate, mango-flavored, hardheaded, God-loving loony tune and mama's boy with three creams and much too much sugar. He seeks righteousness and freedom and grace and peace of mind and love; not necessarily in that order, and not necessarily on myspace. But hey, one never knows.
One of L's high school friends/lovers invoked the following to describe him:
"...i know a boy/
who is skysoft brown/
the dirt leaps for joy/
when his feet touch the ground."
(T. Morrison)
...if the dirt leaps for joy under his feet, imagine what you'll do under his tongue.
You should get to know him because winter is nothing more than a prelude to spring. Likewise: those others who disappointed you were simply preludes to L.

What follows is my seven-year-old personal ad once posted on NYMetro.com...the questions/conversation starters are from the site; my responses follow each.
1. In my bedroom one will find...
Laughter and poetry. Less laughter than poetry. And lately, not much laughter at all. A pile of clean clothes. Black-and-white postcards of black authors taped to the wall above a bed. Me: stretched across the same narrow, humble bed. Stuffed animals with names. More books than I've read (they've got names too). Worries. Windchimes. Wind. Love and light, depending on the time of day.
2. If I could be anywhere right now...
In Zanzibar. In Georgia. Sprawled in a field filled with six-foot-tall purple flowers who lean over to greet the wanderers and lovers who huddle in their midst. With everyone I love and everyone they love, too. Entangled in the arms of righteous love. In Brooklyn. Indeed. (Or at least in theory). In peace. All together. Now. In springtime. Nearer to God. At once.
3. The best or worst lie I've ever told...
I'm not in love. I'm just deeply in like.
C'mon now...I didn't mean what I wrote in that psalm I gave you; I was using my po-eh-tic license.
...But in general: I'm not a fan of telling lies; appaarently, I'd much rather live them.
4. Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier.
watching you pretend to sleep is sexy; watching you sleep is sexier.
5. Five items I can't live without
words
lip balm
orange juice
companionship
the bible
my imagination
portable love (meaning: the love i can take with me).
Yes, i chose seven, rebel that i am.
6. Favorite on-screen sex scene
The lagoon scene in 'The Little Mermaid'. Tropical sea creatures gather to sing calypso to an ocean princess and seashore prince in a narrow rowboat...for a musical prelude to and invocation of a kiss...a kiss that never happens because the boat capsizes. Shit. It's the same with me: the boat always flips just before the kiss.
But if we hold steady and skip the prelude, then maybe we won't get all wet next time. And even if we do get wet, who says we can't kiss underwater?
7. The last great book I read
Toni Morrison's 'Jazz'. The entire novel is a riddle...of sorts. Left me puzzled, if only for a moment, at its end. Hmmm...Puzzles I can't solve give me hard-ons. Gorgeous turns of phrase give me hard-ons, too. The book was appropriately placed in my lap.
I once read a novel written in the scars on a man's chest. It was a typical love story.
8.What I'm Looking For in a [Lover]
Someone whose spirit is wide enough to embrace mine, but slender enough to fit cozily inside my arms on thursday nights. Someone who is kind. Imaginative. Affectionate. Restless. Generous. Passionate. Juicy. Big-Spirited. Bold. Electric. Patient. Charismatic. Self-assured. Self-conscious. Clever. Occasionally crazy. Well-built. Creative. Sympathetic. Contemplative. Love.
Someone who paints smiles across my face and erections across my boxer-briefs with one stroke. Someone who's engaged in the constant pursuit of righteousness or at least happiness. Or both. Someone who'll wander through alleyways and canyons with me on summer afternoons. Someone who digs words: their sounds and meanings alike. Someone who often smiles: cause God is watching.
Someone who'll kiss my sleeping lips and and mumble poetry into my sleeping eyelids. Someone who'll sweeten my nights and moisten my dreams.
But mostly: this would-be-lover sings like a joke, laughs like a song, loves they mama, and loves they God.
What took you so long?
