About Me

Ben Hernandez, 30, (harmonica, vocals, kazoo, jug, washtub bass, spoons) is a naturally gifted vocalist/ harmonica player who is quickly gaining praise from southern California's most critical blues & roots aficionados, and blues veterans. Specializing in the pre-war, acoustic blues styles, Ben has committed himself to preserving an almost lost musical genre while still stamping his own distinct mark. Playing full-time with guitarist Nathan James, he has performed all over the state of California and a few states beyond. His latest album with James earned a San Diego Music Award Nomination for Best Blues Album in 2005; he competed in the 2006 International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, Tennessee and took first place in the competition in 2007. Having just returned from a tour of Denmark Ben and Nathan will be back in the studio completing their 3rd album. His musical influences include such legends as: Sonny Terry, Peg Leg Sam, John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson , Hammie Nixon, and Noah Lewis, to name a few. Also: check out bhernandezblog.blogspot.com
