Nate Laurence: appreciator, DJ, producer and event-planner. All these roles combine to create one of the freshest talents in the underground scene today. Contagious and unrivaled energy behind the turntables has got Minneapolis clubs bumping. Innovative cuts, loops and samples have got booties shaking the world over.
Driven by rhythm – above all, rhythm – Nate Laurence's sound came from his bygone rave days, when the beats didn't stop until dawn. A longtime DJ and a professional disciple of the electronic scene, Nate rocked parties throughout late high school, his undergrad years at the University of Minnesota, time at Musictech College in St. Paul, and while living in his second home of Cape Town, South Africa. He continued to support the local scene during his grad school studies in social justice education and youth development, patronizing the iconic First Ave VIP room every Friday night. He still shows support to his fellow Minneapolisians, attending his "church" (discotheques and events) as often as possible, dancing up a storm in front of the loudest speaker.
Post grad school, Nate focused his extra time on music production. He combined talents in 2006 with longtime DJ partner JD Havens to form the production duo Rhythm Renewal. The two blended individual talents to create unique tracks that pop with musicality and fun. Also in 2006, Nate began collaboration efforts with Chicago-based producer Scrubfish. Their first EP as a duo was signed to the infamous Control Recordings in 2007, peaking "Sleepless Cold Nights" at the number 2 spot on the Stompy.com Top100 and one of the highest selling tracks for the label. Nate has continued on solo projects while collaborating with multiple artists from around the world. His work has appeared on such reputable labels as Spatula City, Control, Funkfield, Guess Who, Stencil, and Franchise Player.
Rounding out the triple threat, in 2007 Nate joined forces with Minneapolis staples DJ Spur and Jeff Kash to create Sol Funké. Minneapolis's version of Chicago's Grizzled or LA's HAWT, the event crew's arrival has stirred an uproar long awaited by the party people of the frozen north.
Nate Laurence's music career has evolved over the course of two decades and largely behind the scenes. That career has now become impossible to ignore.

I'm a complex person and have found my calling: I am 100% dedicated to music in its many forms and 100% committed to the fight for social justice as an international activist and educator. I am blessed by my father who recently passed; three sisters (Molly in San Diego, Courtney in Brooklyn NY, Kara here in Minne-snow-ta); my wonderful girlfriend - my love Sami; my wonderful lab pup "Dio;" my extended South African family; drum circles; laughter; large hazelnut lattes; activists; musicians; artists; punk rock and hip-hop; freedom fighters; graf writers; experiences that have humbled me; thunderstorms; vinyl; and, travel.
