About Me

at MySpace Toolbox !SORRY FOR THE BIO........but...................I dont really know what to say about what I play. I like it all as long as its REAL. I hate fake music. If you have to ask what I consider real...than you dont get it.
Name: Zak K. AKA: DVS1 theDEVIOUSone......... Style: MUSIC, Tekno, from deep minimal to hard beatin with soul in between............. Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota.......... Born: Leningrad (St. Petersburg) U.S.S.R. 1976.......... Contact: [email protected]............
(BIO WRITTEN IN 2002 with a few updates. New one coming soon)
Zak, aka theDEVIOUSone has been beating dancefloors down since the early to mid 90’s. His relentless pursuit of hard to find records has made him not only an amazing DJ, but truly an act to see. From letting loose on stage and stopping everything to scream out at the crowd to just loosing himself in the music he plays, his stage presence is 1 of a kind. In order to help achieve the environment needed, he prefers pitching up the turntables and adding an efex processor to manipulate the sounds. His extensive knowledge of MUSIC comes from a nearly 10,000+ personal record collection to the ordering he does for local record shop Vital Vinyl.
He began dj’ing while living in New York and later moved to Minnesota, where you will find him now. Back in New York he was mixing the Acid sounds of the early 90’s, but as tekno evolved so did DVS. He found himself drawn to the deeper beats and rhythmic sounds in tekno. Over the years his taste has found him playing a wide variety of styles within tekno. Unlike others he never plans his sets, instead choosing to bring an arsenal of vinyl and work with the situation. This method has been able to sway even the most non-tekno listeners to appreciate a good tekno workout.
The summer of 2001 found theDEVIOUSone traveling to Ireland @ Evolution and Germany to play at the infamous TRESOR club of Berlin. These gigs and the representation of the Midwest that he carried are forever etched in the minds of all who saw his performance .
Aside from mixing, theDEVIOUSone, has been producing more tools to add to his arsenal to use in Dj sets. His unique taste and style help to create a very personal sound that can only be described as “devious” in itself. As of recent, he has began experimenting with computer based programs and has been playing more and more original music.
HISTORY: Back in 1996, Zak established a promotional company called HUSH Productions, which has thrown some of the Midwest’s most memorable events. Back in 1997 Hush went down in the history of the Midwest scene by bringing an almost unheard of all European lineup. The lineup included Heiko Laux, Electric Indigo, Neil Landstrum & Tobias Schmitt (LIVE), Dave Tarrida and Shandy. Along with the lineup came a sound system totaling over 100,000 watts of power. Hush went on to throw 1 large event a year until 2001(Resurrection and Ascension), bringing artists such as Traxx, Dj Bone, Steve Stoll, 8fat fat8, Surgeon and many more. Since, Hush has decided to focus on co-sponsoring events with other prominent Minneapolis production teams to keep bringing cutting edge talent to the city. In the last few years he has been asked to open for Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Rob Hood and Dj Bone as they all traveled through Minneapolis.
FOUNDATION R.I.P.****__________________________________________________ ______________________________After nearly 4 years of talking about it….In June of ’06 Zak took things to another level and opened up FOUNDATION nightclub in Minneapolis. (www.foundationmpls.com). The venue has been host to some amazing talent and is just getting started. Artists such as Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, traxx, Rolando, Mike Huckaby, Dj Bone, Vince Watson, and many others have already played there as well as hip hop artists such as Guru and jazzmataz, Roc Raida, Cut chemist, Lyrics Born, Slick Rick, Kurtis Blow, Dj Krush. Foundation strives to be respected as a music venue where the vibe is intimate, yet powerful and the sound is body moving.***FOUNDATION R.I.P.*****
