About Me

dj Melik (dedicace rec - diaspora rec - myspace.com/melik72 ) France
Melik has been playing records for more than 15 years (since 1989 exactly) in various places and with loads of big names djs in the same vibes : Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher, Franki Valentine, dj Deep, Playing for the city, Sweet Abraham, Alex Attias, Erik Rug, diy, Alex from Tokyo, E-man, Jef K, Dennis Ferrer, Rainer Truby, dj gregory. Being dj, brought him to play gigs in several countries and cities including Paris, Bruxelles, London, Copenhagen, Oslo, Chicago, New York, Lausane and of course almost everywhere in France.
He released records on Dedicace recording (his own label), including the now classic Rue de Paris in colaboration with K-NOOL, which has been licenced on numerous compilations around the world. Some more projects comming up on different established labels soon. Also involved in a secret project (its secret, we obviously cant tell you) that created quite a stir when released in 2004. (charted and played by some of the big cats on the planet). He also been running one of leading french record store for 5 years in Nice (1995 - 2000). Durring that period he has been organising some of the finest parties in his home town (Nice), called ''TUESDAY'', where some of the world biggest names came to play all night sets.
He's been living in London between 2001 and 2005, and has been running Discograph's London office (french leading record distribution company), he also keep producing records in association with Diaspora recording and Visions recording. Now back in Paris, he's still working for Discograph, running vinyl sales department for the UK and France.
Of course he's still djing around to spread quality musics words and sounds... Huge record collertor (well, most of his money for the last 18 years has been spent back into buying more records.), his dj sets range from soul to funk to disco to deep house and techno, without ever forgeting to move any dancefloor, even when the odd jazz track appears from nowhere.. always surprising, always enjoyable

VINYL OR MP3??
Well, I just think we should still make objects, make things exist in three dimensions, you know ? Everyone has switched to MP3 but MP3 is not that good. It’s actually more old-fashoned than vinyl. But because it’s the next stop in new technology, it’s this thing we all must have, even if it’s actually more of a step back, because it’s a loss in terms of quality. Which, in a way, means you don’t need quality anymore. I’m not anti-downloads or anti-computers or whatever but i think we should redress the balance a little bit and do things that are really creative and beautiful in the first place. Objects look more precious and sacred to people than series of zeroes and ones
